I love my 2008 Honda CR-V. We have bonded through some pretty horrible Wisconsin Winter Storms. Even Semi's traveled with their hazard lights on. I bought this Honda in summer of 2012. It had one previous owner. They needed more seating.

I just made the last car payment in May and was joking with the guys in the shop that now that its paid for, I hope nothing goes wrong. Two and a half months later, my great car is making horrible noises...not all the time. The check engine light is not on. But it is mind boggling to those trying to figure it out. Its been looked at, listened to, put on a hoist. The thought is, and they hate to tell me, that it is the engine making those noises. My air conditioning works, so does the cruise and the door locks. Tires, bearing, brakes...all good. I read alot about A/C compressors. My Air works fine and no sound appears to be coming from there. Does it make a noise? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm on the road alot and love having the grandkids with me but I'm a bit nervous to go anywhere thinking we would end up stranded somewhere.

I have not taken it into Honda yet. I have been told it could be hundreds of dollars just to diagnose. Thought I would start here.

Ideas?

Update from Sep 7, 2016: We did replace the water pump and coolant. That did not fix the problem.
