Just after my extended warranty ran out, I had the dealership take a look at everything. Found nothing
1 month later I am in for a brake job and they say I have a leak in the power steering gear box. I said why didn't you see it last month? And then they said, oh its normal to have some leaking on older cars.. That was at 70k miles.
So I let it go, until now when I was at mechanic to repair a rear door actuator and asked him to check it out. He said yes you need a new rack & pinion, and if I should run out of fluid , I would need a pump too.
I replaced the a/c last month. So I am really disappointed in Honda, I wont be buying another one. I have owned three and was very happy. Quality has fallen off. I also heard cars made between 2008-2011 in general were poor quality.

Second time replacing the power steering rack. Now the entire system needs replacing. Why buy a Honda? Twice replacing the power steering!! Something is wrong with the CRV but no one will take responsibility. I will never buy another Honda!!!

WOW!!! Bought this car because my wife's experience with her 2005 CRV was excellent...Wish could look into the future to see the chart of "good and bad years" for this model before...because I bought a BAD YEAR! When you spend $24K for a vehicle that's hailed as one of the best in its class...well you don't expect to shell out $900 to repair a faulty steering pump and fluid. HONDA - THIS REALLY SUCKS! And another thing...The whole "Maintenance Minder" count-down to your next service...THAT'S a SCAM to get you to spend more money on a car that's hailed as RELIABLE and cost effective...NOT.

Why is leak in rack and pinion not covered by warranty? The car will be four years old in March 2012 and only 44,000 miles. Looks like this is an ongoing problem with Honda for several years, when I researched it on line.

Using a leak repair fluid to see if that will fix the problem. Extremely annoying whirring sound coming from rack and pinion currently. Estimate from the mechanic to replace rack and pinion is $1100
