problem #1

Oct 192014

CR-V LX 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

While driving on highway, without any warning, car suddenly started to vibrate, engine light started flashing then car died with a big clunking noise. Was able to coast to side of highway. Car towed to dealer where all servicing had been done in a timely fashion, no one else had worked on car. Car had 40,000 miles and was just out of its 35,000 mile warranty but drive train is covered to 60,000 miles under standard warranty. Honda is currently replacing engine.

Apparently, coolant somehow leaked into engine block and cracked it thus causing a catastrophic failure. They don't know how or why this happened and are giving damaged engine to Honda for "autopsy" to determine cause. My only complaint is the Honda dealer is not providing a courtesy car for the duration of repairs which could be a full week.
