I brought the car into my Honda dealership after noticing that I was not getting cold air when I turned on the AC. They diagnose the AC operation and discovered a leak coming from the AC condenser. They said that it appeared that a rock has impacted the condenser and recommended that the condenser be replaced.
They noted that it would not be covered under my Honda Plus comprehensive warranty since the condenser was damaged and not defective. They quoted me a price of over $1500 if I used Honda parts or about $1000 if they used after market parts. I was very upset when I heard this. This may not be a defect but it is definitely a design flaw if a small stone can cause such damage. I noticed that the new 2015 Honda CR-V was redesigned with a new grill that covered the condenser.
I believe Honda must be aware of the issue and is trying to cover it up. I am also aware that there has been a class action suit due to a similar problem with older models of Honda. The dealer is contacting Honda Canada to see if they will reimburse me for the repairs but I am not confident that they will. I am hoping they will see that this is a problem with the vehicle and provide good will and pay for the repairs. I also see a need to resolve the overall issue with front grill and provide a protective grid/mesh so the problem cannot reoccur.
Update from Aug 5, 2015: I contacted the dealer that did the initial diagnosis again and they said that Honda Canada will not cover the cost since Honda says this is damage. They are correct on this point but they will not acknowledge that there is a possible design defect that is causing it.

My car has less than 20,000 miles on it and the air compressor has gone out. I'm in sales so we paid for the bumper to bumper warranty and also got an extended warranty. Honda is telling us that the Air compressor is not covered because it looks like there may be a whole in it from a rock. I drive a lot on the I interstate , and never on dirt roads. My bitch is that we paid extra to make sure that problems from normal wear & tear would be covered. If a rock did get flung from my tire and puncture the compressor, I consider this normal wear & tear, and also a design flaw on Honda's part. There are rocks on every road, and this could happen to anyone at any time. So by not covering this under warranty, they are pretty much saying all the money we spent on the extra warranty & b2b warranty only applies when my car is parked. I should not have to pay $600 dollars to have this fixed!!! At this point I want to give back my car and never purchase Honda again!!
