2nd time, same problem, different location. Rodent chewed through the wiring. This time I got to see it. It was all the way through just as it was 11 days earlier. It was the same mechanic as the first time so he was able to show me the first repair as well. I didn't think of taking a picture. I was pissed to say the least, especially since I had done some research prior to this second occurrence and found out about the "green, eco friendly" wire wrapping that had been used on my CR-V that is soy based. Honda knew of the problem still says it's not covered by warranties or extended warranty. On the bright side, the service rep. talked to his manager and I wasn't charged for this repair. However, additional fixes would not be possible and a new harness would have to be ordered and installed. This would run about $450 and I wouldn't have my car for several days. That would mean an add'l cost to rent a car for that time. Doing additional research to finding some sort of preventative solutions I came across Honda 4019-2317 Rodent Tape. Obviously Honda is well aware of the problem to have this product under its name and with a part number. I have not purchased this or inquired of the cost to wrap everything under the hood of my car. I have purchased a sonic device that runs off my car battery and installed it. It has also become a necessary routine to place several rodent and mice traps of various sizes around my car and have to move them out of the way every time I want to use my car. This is such a pain in the ass to do. I live in a rural area so critters are always going to be around. So far no additional nibbling has occurred. At least as of yesterday when I had a trusted mechanic check as he changed the oil in my car. I am angry about this known problem and that it isn't covered by warranties or recall for replacement harness and other vulnerable parts. Since it happens so suddenly, I am leery about driving any distances now. If I lose power steering on the freeway or making a crucial turn, there will be an accident. Is that what Honda is waiting for?!!

Scared the heck out of me. Warning lights for LSAK came on. I had no power steering. I had to miss 2 appts. because I was scared to drive the car. Finally was informed it was ok to drive it to the dealership. Backing down my driveway requires a couple of sharp turns. It took 5 tries with no power steering. At the dealership I was informed that it was wiring (harness) damage due to rodents chewing and it was not covered by warranty or my extended warranty. I was given 2 options: repair the rodent damaged part of harness approx $350, or replace the harness approx. $450 and be without my (only) vehicle for several days. For me it was no choice at all. The repair cost me $320.

This is my 4th Honda. Never had any problems like this with any of the others and I have lived in the same house for 37 years. My previous Honda was a 2005 Honda Accord EX coupe.

Electrical harness is placed in such a way that it is rodent friendly. Material attracts rodents. This has happened twice, the 2nd. time within a month of repair. Skid plates/mud guards give rodents a perfect harbor to chew on wiring. Power steering goes out and is VERY dangerous.

Update from Apr 9, 2016: I 'm trying to create and add a new complaint about rodent damage but can't seem to add a new complaint as the site recommends. I have had to repair this car 3 times from damage..... actually 4 if you count a Jack rabbit as a rodent. This car has done nothing but cost me a fortune in repairs and it is not even a year old until June 2016. A jack rabbit ran into the right side bumper hit the rubber lower part--literally broke the bumper and separated the rubber part from the vehicle.... and cracked the interior wheel liner....
Then...... !! The wind shield washer fluid ceased to work.... Apparently when the repair was done on the rodent damaged washer fluid container and hose line, the technician did not completely snap in the join behind the right front lower bumper OR the jack rabbit hitting the car actually separated the unit that moves the washer fluid up the line to the windshield and rear window washer because all washer fluid availability ceased.
My son in-law found the separated unit behind the front right bumper, snapped it back into place and it still did not work..... after much fiddling around and the fact I live way out on a dirt road --- dust had collected in the open hanging line, in turn it totally clogged the spray nozzles--once we cleaned them out they worked. Took two hours to trouble shoot it.
Had I gone back to the dealer they will not cover rodent damage so that would have been another couple hundred dollars down the tubes.... for this piece if junk car. PLUS.... I have talked to 4 different Honda Dealers about the rodent damage..... in three different states---not one single dealer EVER mentioned there was tape available to discourage rodents.... nor the dealer that repaired the vehicle three times for rodent damage either.... Just now ON:LY since the Class Action Suit has been filed has Honda mentioned that they have tape.... So Um, ya know, that would have been nice to know the first time around after repairs.... hundreds and hundreds of dollars later now Honda admits they have rodent deterrent tape? So count me in for 4 four rodent incidences & repairs...... and that does not count that fact that I had to repair the hood from owl damage ..... because of rabbits and rodents hanging around the car and I had the hood open at night and an owl came down to catch a rodent and hit the open hood scratching the hood clear down the primer........ so that was another $250.00 deductible from my Insurance carrier that had to pay to repair my car plus rent me a car for 3 days....
I am so turned off to Honda that I cannot even begin to tell you how disappointed I am with this car. And heck, I won't get into the fact that you crack the window for fresh air and rain water just pours into the arm rest area by the bucket fulls.... and the seats are horrible and the vibration at stop signs. This car is a total lemon and Redding,Ca. Honda sales manager plays loud music while you are trying to explain how difficult this vehicle is and after they promised me total satisfaction from their dealership and the Honda manufacturer.... yeah---right. BUYER BEWARE ....

Update from Nov 17, 2016: Once again the power steering went out due to rodent damage. Honda uses products that attract rodents and design that harbors them ..... This car is a virtual lemon and dealer, nor corporate will honor their satisfaction agreement..... Worst car I have ever had..... transmission on recall. Poor design, waste of interior space, drivers window leaks water during rain.... rabbit hit bumper and broke it. Literally rabbit ran into side of bumper--so cheap it is broken.
