My recent encounter was on a two lane road traveling at 40 mph. No cars were in front of me and a car was about 2 car lengths behind me. A MINIschool bus was heading in the other direction about 2 car lengths on the other side of the road. I had my two grandchildren in the car with me, when all of a sudden the car breaked hard sending all my things on the floor and scarring my granddaughters. I was shaken myself being nearly rear ended by the car behind me. I took it in to atlantic Honda, and was told ' no problems were found on the computer and could not duplicate the issue'. 'never had anyone complain of this'. I also advised them, the break light flashes 'out of the blue' while driving on the highway with no other cars around. I was told to bring it in if it happens again. I feel on edge driving the car not knowing if it will break unexpectedly!

The automatic braking system engages when there is no imminent danger. Sometimes it occurs when the vehicle in front exits onto an off-ramp and slows down. Even though they are not in front of my car, the auto braking triggers. In other situations there has been no discernable reason for the brakes to trigger, creating a significant danger of being rear-ended by the car following me. In the latter case, it happens more frequently when there there is a commercial-size truck in the right lane - usually not slowing down or maneuvering in any apparent way.

The collision mitigation system part of Honda sensing will automatically and randomly engage while driving, causing the breaks to be self applied abruptly even when there is nothing in front of the car. This is extremely dangerous and almost caused multiple accidents. Honda doesn't believe there is a problem. This has happened multiple times already.

Computer break system and applied brakes failed to stop our Honda CRV 2018 as we were exiting the Santa Fe opera in a slow moving line of cars down an incline. The brakes were applied at least three times and would not engage. Car began to accelerate. At this time we made the decision to "select a pine tree" as a way to stop the CRV. This was done to prevent a possible chain reaction of rear end collisions to a dozen or more cars and possible injury to the occupants. The air bags deployed. Car was totaled by the insurance company.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. while driving 15 mph, the brakes failed. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, it would not depress and the entire electrical system went out. The instrument panel gauges lit up and flashed. The vehicle drove through a stop sign and over railroad tracks. The emergency brake did not engage. The contact let the vehicle roll to a stop. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle several times, but the failure recurred. After three attempts, the contact was able to pull the vehicle to the middle of the road and had it towed to a dealer. Airport Honda (3069 alcoa hwy, alcoa, tn 37701, (865) 970-2300) instructed the contact to have Honda roadside service tow the vehicle to them for diagnostic testing. The contact informed the dealer that she felt unsafe in the vehicle and did not want it back. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 28,000.

Driving down a country road doing about 55mph on July 28,19 my vehicle suddenly came to a dead stop for no reason. Closest vehicle in front was 9-10 car lengths ahead. Nothing on the side of the road or directly in front of me. If a vehicle was behind me I would have been rear ended. A malfunction such as this could cause a deadly unavoidable accident. At the time I did not have the adaptive cruise control set and had no control of gas pedal when this collision mitigation braking assist system activated. This vehicle is a time bomb for anyone driving it. This is clearly a safety hazard.and one which needs to be investigated.

In addition, while driving with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle decelerated from 58 to 45 mph independently. Don ayres Honda (4740 lima rd, fort wayne, in 46808, (260) 484-0551) was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,700.

While traveling down a 2 lane road at about 35 mp/hr I noticed a large metal plate that a utility company had used to cover a hole in the road. As the car approached the plate, the collision mitigation braking system activated unexpectedly, throwing me violently forward in the seat. There were 2 cars behind me that almost rear ended me. I reported this incident to the car dealership and to american Honda client services within a couple of days and asked that the cmbs feature be disabled because I fear it will activate again unexpectedly at some point, causing a loss of control of the vehicle and, or, a rear end collision. They said that the feature could not be disabled. It could only be shut down by an on/off button on the dash. However, it automatically resets when you start the engine. Because of this unexpected and violent experience, I feel that the cmbs is a dangerous feature and that it could cause a very serious accident. I'm asking that the NHTSA get Honda to fix the cmbs issue before someone is seriously injured. Thank you.

Vehicle was at approximately 45 mph on a local street when the collision avoidance braking automatically engaged. Not a single vehicle or object was in front of the car.car came to a screeching halt. Had to veer off onto center of the road onto left turn only lane to avoid rear car crash. Dangerous condition. Lost control of the vehicle. Stepping on the brakes or accelerator could not override the event till car came to a screeching halt.

My vehicle was in motion traveling at 30 mph on a city street. My vehicle suddenly flashed the brake warning and the brakes were engaged automatically until the vehicle reached a full stop. There was no reason for this as there were no cars in front of me or any other obstacle in my path. No car was in the oncoming lane either. This is the 2nd time this has happened in this vehicle under the same conditions.

Accident avoidance system engaged for no reason, locking the brakes momentarily while driving at 40 mph. May 5, 2019, clear day, 4:30P, heading East (sun behind), nothing in front of the vehicle and traffic far behind. Five lane road - two lanes each direction and a middle turn lane -- and straight in this area. Turned right onto the road from an intersection and got up to speed. The warning sound from the accident avoidance system beeped three times while the brakes were harshly applied causing light skidding in dry conditions. Then the brakes were just as suddenly released. Happened very quickly and would have caused an accident if I was in traffic. My foot was still on the gas pedal and the braking force made me push the pedal more. Extremely unsafe incident. Vehicle had about 3,710 miles, 2018 CR-V ex 1.5 turbo AWD with cvt.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. while driving 50 mph and exiting a freeway, the forward collision avoidance system independently activated and caused the vehicle to come to an immediate stop. The vehicle also lunged to the right. The contact stated that the failure also occurred on another occasion while driving 30 mph. John Eagle Honda of dallas (5311 lemmon ave, dallas, tx 75209) was called at (214) 431-5997 and an appointment was made to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,800.

Unexpected braking; occurred 2/9/2019M while driving down a straight, level road, with no other cars in front or behind me. Sunny day, no wind, no buildings or shadows of any kind, no debris on road -- perfect driving conditions. Car braked without warning, from 40mph to ~20mph in a fraction of a second, seat belt held me back, then brakes released. Immediately visited dealership (autonation Honda 104, 2999 w 104th, westminster, co), reported problem, they did some computer diagnostics, found nothing, tried to blame problem on a blowing leaf.

On two occasions the automatic breaking system engaged. On the first occasion, I was driving at a speed of approximately 30 mph and the road was completely clear with no cars in front of me or objects in the road. On the second occasion, I was driving over a railroad track at approximately 10 or 15 mph. There were no cars in front of me. Both times the breaks engaged abruptly and I was lucky there were no cars following closely or it would have caused a collision.

Lane departure and collision control often engage without cause. Twice I have been driving and the lane departure sensors go off and vehicle automatically brakes for no obvious reason. It appears that it may be falsely reading shadows or wet roadways. One incident was on a city street at about 40 mph. The other was on the interstate at around 70 mph.

I was driving to work on dry roads with light traffic due to it being spring break in atlanta. I was driving at 48 mph and suddenly it was as if someone had stomped on the brakes hard. The car slowed very quickly to 30 mph. A car that was following me at similar speed had to swerve to avoid running into the back of me. There was no car in front of me that could have triggered a breaking response and I did not deviate from my lane either. This was a completely random event. 10 minutes later as I got closer to work the lane diversion warning came on, again with me being rocky steady in my lane. I think the sensors may have been reading any whites lines in the road, like a crosswalk or white lane turn arrow.

I was driving to get license renewed when my car lost power and began to coast. The engine was on and I had to gun it to pick up speed. I turned around and headed for the Honda dealership. Upon getting there all systems were lit up maintenance wise and smoke was coming out of the underside where the brakes are. The service advisor said when she went around the car that it was so hot it would have burned her. Service tech said left front brakes extremly heated and smoke coming from the area. Found brakes have gotten hot. Cleared code present C0040-12. Brake switch stuck on. I advised never used hold brake unless I was sitting on steep hill. Tech unable to make vehicle do what it was doing to me but, the minute I got it out on the highway, it started doing the same thing. Tech advised brake pads ok and rotors have some heat spots in them but ok. They went ahead and changed the oil!!!!
