CR-V Touring 1.5L 4-cyl 190hp

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,000 miles

The alarm went off by itself and and the fob would not function to turn the alarm off or to unlock the car to get into the car. The key had to be removed from the fob to override the system. The car was attempted to start but it failed and multiple system errors appeared on the dash. The car would not start and the dealership was called. The service manager told me to take the + POSITIVE terminal off of the battery and wait ten minutes and attach it back to the battery terminal to fix the problem. This did not work and then the car would not even light up the dash. AAA was called to jump start the car but when he arrived the battery showed it had power and he suspected the alarm cause an internal electrical or computer malfunction. The car had to be towed to the dealership and a diagnostic test was run but the solution was not evident to the service tech.

The advice of the service department was to try a $800.00 new computer component for the alarm system. They did not know when the part would be available and advised me to pay up front for the part and wait for a call. The car they said was able to be started by disconnecting the Negative and Positive battery cables and touching them together for 15 min to reset the system and battery. I was advised that until the part comes in if the system continues to do the same thing to follow their solution and to disconnect the Positive and Negative terminals and touch them together for 15 min and then to reattach to the battery. The car functioned for two days and has been sitting in my garage unable to start and their remedy of touching battery cables to each other does not work. CR-V Touring with 22000 miles should last longer then this.
