problem #2

Dec 252019

CR-V 1.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,800 miles

The problem first showed itself when the weather temperature dropped to about 15 degrees. The car did not heat up and when slowed to make a turn, the temperature gauge dropped to not registering and there was no heat. The car is driven only in short drives and the problem did not become evident again until near the end of Jan. 2020 when the temp was below zero with significant build up of ice and frost on the windshield. With no heat or defrost, the car was too dangerous to drive. I tried idling the engine for over twenty minutes, but the engine never heated up or produced heat through the heater vents or defroster.

The car was pronounced as working properly in a first visit to the dealer. In the second, they were able to duplicate the problem and agreed with me. The service manager also said he had many (over a hundred) complaints from his customers regarding similar problems with heating in the CR-V's. He said he contacted Honda who suggested putting a piece of cardboard in from of the radiator (I am not making this up) or to drive the car in a low gear so it will heat up faster. Once on the road, the car does eventually heat up and produces sufficient heat but only after running at highway speed for a few miles.

The final word was there is nothing the service manager could do until the Honda Corporation provides a solution and he will keep us in mind. And, don't let the door hit you in you know what on the way out. I consider this to be a serious safety problem because I live in a cold climate and can not clear the windshield of ice and frost prior to driving on the road. If I had known of this defect, I would not have purchased the car.

CR-V EX 1.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 100 miles

This car will not heat up in the morning to defrost the windshield, Its a known problem that Honda has known about since 2017 Cr-V models with no known solutions from Honda. Prime Honda dealer in Saco Maine says that there is nothing wrong with this operating system on this vehicle. The service dept said you must drive your vehicle to defrost the windshield.
