Civic LX 1.9L

  • Manual transmission
  • 173,000 miles

173,000 mi down shift to go up steep hill.... engine starts to run rough , chk engine light starts to blink..... I assume another burnt valve #&^#$$$$$. mechanic assures me it is out of any warantee period (30 days parts and labour) has to be machine shop cleaning and replacing old valves....

I am replacing car, has burnt oil from day I purchased (qt/1000) now at Qt every 600. I change every 3000, How soon before it burns another valve??? otherwise a fine car ;-)Q. any guesses as to why this engine burns valves? is it a common problem?

Thanks

Civic LX 1.9L

  • Manual transmission
  • 144,000 miles

had valve job at 135,000 @144,000 engine started running rough again. check engine light blinking, took to different mechanic.... (original mechanic assured me that problem was not related to any work that he performed and he would not redo valves as warranted work) #3 cyl-- burnt valve. new mechanic assured me that valves were not properly adjusted on previous valve job-- did valve job... car ran fine

Getting the civic I thought was a good idea it is supposed to be a good car replacing the engine lights and the engine at least two times, I think that they should look at that model to see if there is something wrong with the system it work's under or the engine.
