problem #2

Civic EX 1.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,000 miles

My 2001 Honda Civic A/c clutch started making an annoying noise and my air stopped blowing cold hair. I took the car to the dealership and they told me I needed a new A/c compressor and that it would cost $1500+ to fix. I bought a compressor at Advanced auto parts for $400 and also purchased the condenser, oil and refrigerant. After purchasing all these and paying my local mechanic to drain the system, install the new compressor and charge the system, I paid a little over $1000 including having to rent a car for a few days.

After six months, the problem happened again. I'm really disappointed in Honda's product in the early 2000's and I think they should take responsibilty for the repairs.

Civic LX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 37,000 miles

I was driving and even though it was February, I lived in Alabama at the time and spring starts earlier there so I turned on my A/C and I noticed that it wouldn't work. I called the Honda 1-800 number and complained to them that I bought a Honda because I thought they were good cars and I've had nothing but problems with it since I bought it. The warranty had run up about 4 months before this happened so I felt that it wasn't fair that I would have to pay for this repair. It turned out that the air compressor clutch had fallen out and not from anything that I had done. So after lots of complaints, the initial cost was going to be between $600 and $1000 to fix. It only cost me $100. It pays to complain!!
