2001 Honda Civic. Consumer writes in regards to issue with airbag inflator the consumer stated he was not satisfied with the recall. The consumer stated the air bag light illuminated after the dealer claimed the problem was fixed.

2001 Honda Civic. Consumer writes in regards to airbag campaign recalls the consumer stated the air bag light illuminated. The consumer contacting contacted the dealer, and was informed no appointment was necessary. When the consumer arrived at the dealer, she was subsequently turned away. The advisor, without looking at the vehicle or checking the computer system indicated that a salvaged title was not covered under the recall campaign and there would be a $100 to have the vehicle inspected. The consumer was then informed an appointment was required. The consumer returned to the dealer for an inspection. After the vehicle was inspected, it was determined there was an air bag recall. The consumer declined the $100 inspection fee once again, stating it was a service for a recall. The consumer stated she noticed the invoice stated "customer declined service or repair; SRS light on declined diagnostic".

The contact owns a 2001 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the SRS warning indicator illuminated as the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 08V593000 (air bags: Frontal: Driver side inflater module). The technician stated that an additional repair had to be performed for the air bag to function properly, at the owners expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem and was unable to provide assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Updated08/01/11 updated 09/12/11

2001 Honda Civic. Consumer writes to notify NHTSA of events related to recall the consumer stated he requested additional repairs be made to the vehicle which included the trunk latch which failed to latch properly and the fuel door level that was not working. According to the repair invoice, the trunk release cable was replaced and the fuel door level repaired. The consumer stated when he retrieved the vehicle, he noticed the SRS warning light was on, even though that was the main reason for taking the vehicle in to be serviced under the recall. The dealer informed the consumer the issues described were not related to the recall repairs and further testing would require an additional fee of $95. The consumer stated the dealer failed to correct the recall.

Consumer expresses discontent with recall repair the consumer stated the dealer replaced the airbags, but would not replace the SRS control unit that makes the airbags open and inflate on impact. The consumer believed it was a crucial part of the operation of the air bags and felt it should have been replaced as well. The dealer informed the consumer it would be a cost of $534.

Consumer expresses discontent with dealer response to recall notice regarding a safety airbag defect the consumer stated it has been over two months since he received the first recall notice and the recall still has not been rectified. The first time the consumer inquired about the recall, the dealer informed him the parts would have to be ordered. The second time the consumer inquired about the recall, he was told he would have to bring the vehicle in to determined if there really was a defect with the air bag.

2001 Honda Civic LX driver side air bag deployed causing injuries to the driver in which the inflator module ruptured causing metal fragments to protrude through the air bag cushion striking the consumer in her neck as well as her chest. Recall number 09V259000 was referenced. (lawyer wrote in on behalf of client).
