This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Honda dealer.
All 4 struts went at about 88,500 miles, 9 years after I bought this car. Mechanics at Honda blamed bad roads. I blame Honda for making this car with defective parts that obviously do not last.
Now this year I also replaced the end sway bars and the right tie rod and now they say the left tie rod is going too. Where is the quality that Honda brags about? It certainly isn't on this car.
After calculating all non routine maintenance repairs, I came up with a total of $5,984 after 9 years, which I find excessive.
Plus the crappy spoiler on these cars was not designed to stay on the car either. It was replaced 3 times under warranty and the last time it fell off, it didn't get replaced. BAD DESIGN HONDA!!!
I have a friend who has a 2004 Camry XLE, who has had only routine maintenance and has 137,000 on it. How come my piece of crap Honda started falling apart at 76,000 miles??? How come you don't admit your problems like Toyota is right now?? Huh?? Guess you Japs only care about selling more cars. You obviously don't care about your customers.

Honda your cars and parts are junk no better than the American counterparts you claim your superior too.. my struts went before 75k and mostly highway driving i mean nothing but bouncing from my front end you would think I had hydrolics in my car and it was a pimped out lowrider the way the front end bounced. And you wont cover it under warranty yet you know it was a problem thats why only 01-02 have that model struts and you quickly changed it in 03 and up and 01-02 are so expensive it ridiculous. Honda is junk DO NOT BUY ANY 2000-2006 hondas used, go toyota! send honda a message as there will be no resale value if no one buys the used ones on dealership lots.

2001 Civic EX with 38772 miles and front struts leaking. I purchased this vehicle new. I'm retired and drove this care rarely, hence the low mileage. Of course the 3 mo. 36,000 mile warranty is long gone. I've owned 3 Honda's previously, an '85 accord & a '98 Civic. I had no serious problems with the '98 Civic and traded it in for the '01 Civic. The '85 Accord required strut replacements at approximately 125,000 miles. One would expect this at 125,000 miles. However, failure / leakage of the front struts on the '01 Civic at 38,772 miles is inexplicable at best and indicates a manufacturing defect at worst. I bought this car due to the well known reliability of Honda's. I've very disappointed, shocked and angry due the the failure of the struts at such a low mileage. Firestone has quoted me $587.96 for the job. This isn't peanuts. I'm totally outraged. Upon my next purchase of a new car I'll think twice before buying another Honda. I plan to file a complaint with North American Honda. Should they fail to rectify the problem to my satisfaction, It'll be the last Honda I buy and I'll never again recommend Honda to anyone. Here's looking at you Nissan.

Another typical '01 Civic problem. First time replaced under warranty only 35,000 or so miles into ownership. Second time replaced last summer FOR FREE = ) out of warranty since I spent a few grand on a major service and small (but expensive) repairs. I should mention my dealer seemed to really help me out that time, probably feeling for me a bit or just rewarding my patronage.

Great , I bought the most reliable car. 48,000 miles front struts blown both sides. honda wanted I think 600.00 to do the job. I bought the struts and did the job myself. The parts were 200.00. The parts guy told me to complain to honda I am too busy to complain to people that are just going to piss mre off. though I should have. i figured strust 200 not bad I got a good car . but now air conditioned control shot 250.00 now tranny going . This car is crap I should have kept my chevy Burned more gas and it would have all equalled out in the end money wise If I fix the tranny the cost to own this crap is over $3,000 and don't include oil, tranny fluid regularly. Timing belt $400.00. Gas milage has diminished. I would never by a Honda again . And tell every one I know about my honda experience

I was told that the struts were leaking and needed to be replaced just after replacing the transmission. What happened to reliable civic?

So let me give you the low down on this car i bought. I bought a Honda, my first car ever, because of the quality and sturdiness of the car, I heard that it was the best car ever and that it would never die! So when I bought it, brand new, I was in school, on a tight budget and was told, you'll never have to replace a thing on this!
Well, all of a sudden my shocks started going, I'd go into fix them, and they would leak again, and again, and again...... I had them replaced 8 TIMES!!! They told me that they were putting the wrong part on and had a recall on some of the cars. Yeah it was covered under warranty, however at my dealership they do not offer you a replacement car for the day, with my school work I need to travel an hour each way everyday! So even though it didn't cost me anything to have them replaced, I was still inconvienced! As well I have had to have the sway bar bushings replaced at least 4 or 5 times now. I let Honda know along with all you that are reading this, that I will NEVER buy another Honda again in my life.
If I was Honda, I would be concerned, due to the fact that I tell EVERYONE that I meet all about my car! This is just one of the many things that has happened to this car, read the other sections to see the rest of my car history

Bought our car used in Feb 2002 after 10 months on the road. Suspension became loose and clunky in a few months. Front struts replaced in Aug 2002. Problem reoccured & again replaced March 2003. By summer same problem. Dealer didn't have time to fix before our vacation so third repair done in Aug 2003. 3 times in one year! We believe the struts must have been replaced by the original owner in his 10 months too. On our third trip to the dealer they decided one bushing should be replaced as well. When the car was taken back for the bushing the dealer replaced the steering rack! The steering felt tighter but now have a different clunking in the front end. Dealer denies any problem with struts yet met others in dealer that were there for same problem and had replaced struts more than once. Although this has been warranty work it has been a major piss off and the car is rough driving and when the problems occur it feels like the front end will fall off with hitting a minor bump. I will never buy another Honda Civic and doubtfully even a Honda of any kind.

Annoying that the parts are on back order. This is the third thing that has required replacement. I also have had to have the sensor replaced because the check engine light would not go off and the door panel on the drivers side.

Can't afford to have it fixed. Cost to much money. We hear a "sound" when we do right turns.
