The transmission runs and shifts fine. The lock up on transmission into overdrive doesn't work or engage, which is the 0740 code. the p1298 code is the electronic load detector which is in the fuse box. I replaced this for $40 and did not get rid of code. I brought to dealer and they told me I need new tranny and replace ELD for $3000. I think that is total bullshit. There has got to be way to fix just the solenoid problem, they told me no that there isn't. I have found that is a very common problem with this year civic and yet there is only a voluntary recall, which still puts the bill on the owner. In the process of trying to find other solutions to problem, but in the end I feel that replacing tranny is only option.

Honda Civic 2001, with not even 120,000 miles on it. Drove with care and caution, did routine maintenance, including brand new tires (though that has nothing to do with transmissions). I am the second owner.
2 days ago, I am at a red light with a perfectly functioning car. The light turns green, I hit the gas pedal, and realize I am in neutral. I then look at my shift only to see it is IN FACT, in Drive. Car is dead ever since, has not worked with any troubleshooting like shifting gears or restarting engine.
Damn Honda, wont even provide any percent coverage towards a new transmission. I am no longer a Honda fan and wish the company would go bankrupt.
