problem #1

Civic EX 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 185,000 miles

Moving the temperature knob from the winter time warm or hot setting to fully cold for the spring and summer months, the damper behind the dash does not move all the way and heat is mixed in with the cold air and makes the air warm. No cold A/C. I had a similar problem with my 1993 Ford Probe because the linkage behind the dash was/is made of plastic and the plastic arm broke. Honda probably uses plastic also. This is a foolish design for a part that is used as a force on another part. In the past, i heard the damper "stick" from the extreme hot or cold setting. It was a pronounced popping sound off the duct walls.

Update from Sep 29, 2021: I bought the damper motor for about $40 or so and replaced it myself. Fairly easy.
