always thought highly of honda but the lack of acknowlegement of this problem, which can be a safety issue (visor hanging in field of vision), is making me reconsider on buying another new honda or not. come on honda, step up to the plate!!! I'm taking a picture of this and filing it with my attorney, just in case!

I have had 4 Hondas - an Accord, an Odessey Nav, a CRV and currently, a 2006 Civic EX Nav, and have not had a problem with the visors until I purchased the 2006 Civic EX Nav. I had the car less than 6 months when the passenger side window visor split and would not go back up (nor could I push it back together). Then, in 2008, the driver's side window visor split. Every time I lowered the visor, it would split open again. I could push it back together at that point. Now it has split and I cannot push it together or get the visor to remain in the upright position. The Honda dealer in Athens indicated they have replaced over 500 of them, but that they could not replace it under warranty as my vehicle was out of original Honda mileage warranty. (I currently have around 45K miles.) I was quoted a price of $44 to replace and install each visor. In Marietta, GA, the price quote was $75 to replace and install each visor. I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in Honda's handling of this situation and will pursuse another manufacturer for my next vehicle purchase, after I research the models and subsequent complaints/recalls on the internet! I used to feel Honda held it's own with Toyota (more expensive than Honda), but now I feel they are ignoring their client base. Perhaps all of the attention to detail now lies with Infinity and Lexus purchases. I am writing a letter to the CEO, but do not expect to have this problem addressed. I have an extended warranty on the Honda (to 100K miles), but it covers the transmission and engine only.

This is the second time the sun visors have broked in my Civic. The first time it was still under warranty and Honda replaced them at no cost. This time I haven't called yet, but I don't think I should have to pay anything out of pocket. From the complaints I have seen here this is obviously an ongoing problem with the Civic. Honda needs to recall all these sun visors and replace them with a new redesigned one that won't fall apart. It's a safety hazard. The visor falls down into your line of vision and makes it difficult to see whats in front of you. If I were to have an accident because of this problem I would definitely think about sueing Honda because they know about the problem and appear to be doing nothing about it.

Another complaint I have, I read about in another complaint. I get lousy milage on a set of tires. I'm on my 3rd set of tires in about 3 & 1/2 years. I have around 50,000 miles on the car. And being low profile tires, when they get worn down the car drives terrible in rain and especially snow. You feel like you're going to loose control all the time and have to drive really carefully. If there's even a little water in the road you can feel the car fishtail. I called Honda about this and ask if they had another type of wheels for the car that would take a standard sidewall tire. They said no!! As the manufacturer, they don't recommend that you use any other type of wheel for the car.

Because of this problem alone, would I buy another Civic? At this point I just don't know. I never had another car that was as hazzardous to drive.

Another thing. If your rear tires are cupping, they have a fix for it. See your dealer. I had this problem with my first set of tires and they told me it was probably the tires that came on the car, as they are not the best. When my second set started doing the same thing, I said something to them again, just before it was out of warranty. This time they had a fix for the problem. Something to do with alligning the rear tires. Before the fix they couldn't adjust either the caster of camber, I'm not sure which one. After the fix they were able to adjust both.

Don't be afraid to complain a lot if you're not getting any cooperation. Remember, The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Update from Mar 28, 2010: After talking with the Honda garage about fixing the sun visor, they would only stand for half the cost of replacing it. I don't feel I should have to pay for any of it since this is a faulty product from Honda. So, I fixed the problem myself so that the sun visor won't fall down again. At first I drilled 2 holes about an inch & a half apart near the edge of the visor where came apart, being careful not to hit the rod going through the visor. Then I put small bolts with washers through the holes and drew the two sides of the visor together. This worked well, but I didn't like the metal bolts in the visor just above my head just in case I had an accident. I figured that could cause a good gash in someones head. So I took the visor off again and took the bolts out one at a time and strung 50lb fishing line tightly through each hole and around the edge of the visor numerous times. It holds the visor together very well and has no dangerous pieces of metal hanging down to hit your head on in case of an accident. I've had it this way for some time now and the sun visor works fine and it's not all that noticeable either.

Last year the driver visor separated & Honda replaced it..I had another problem that they fixed the day before...The windows were rattling...the pins in the track kept on breaking. I called Honda Customer Service and they said no one else complained about the visor. I emailed my Honda Service Center & no one has gotten back to me..This is frustrating & annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The tires didn't wear well either...Had to replace tires at 20000 miles..It's like Honda doesn't want to hear about what's wrong with their cars!! And the service center isn't exactly in my neighborhood since they moved!

I was able to “fix” my defective sun visors using two 1” binder clips on the inside edge of each visor.

When my visors began splitting open, I could force them back together, but they continued to break. After reading many reports on the internet from others with the same problem, saying this was just the first stage and ultimately they would split completely, I called Honda’s customer service line to report the situation. They reacted as if I was the first person to ever report this issue. Then, I wrote to the Honda CEO (Tetsuo Iwamura, CEO, Honda Motor Co. Inc., Mail Stop 500-2N-7A, 1919 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, California 90501-2746) detailing the problem and telling them they need acknowledge this problem and issue a recall, since it is so pervasive and actually poses a safety hazard. I received a call from a Honda representative, who told me to bring my Honda to an authorized service center for them to “diagnose” the problem and then they “may be able to help” with the cost of replacement. My dealer charges about $200 to replace both visors, and, since they would be replaced with the same defective visor design, it’s likely I’d need to replace them again every year! That’s when I thought of using the binder clips (available at any office store). The clips have been on for a couple months so far and have been holding the visors together perfectly. It’s not the most aesthetic solution, but it’s a lot cheaper than replacing them. At the very least, if Honda wants to avoid the cost of replacing millions of visors, it could issue a recall to install a color coordinated exterior metal clip to keep the visors from splitting.

This is the third time the visor has broken. The first time they fixed it which lasted 2 weeks. The second time they replaced it under warranty. Now it has happened again while I'm not under warranty. I talked to the service manager and explained that I have four Honda's at my house and that personally this is my 7th Honda since I bought my first one in 1977 and that I've NEVER had any recurring problem with any of my Honda's before. He's going to take care of me. So, kudos to my dealer for doing the right thing. (Front Range Honda)

However, Honda needs to get this thing redesigned and have their QA department see that it gets fixed. I think they should recall the cars for this. It stays down in your line of vision when you don't even need the sun visor. (i.e. especially at night!) So, Honda, I love you guys...you have great products...fix this petty but very annoying and even unsafe problem!

I bought my car in Nov. 2005 and the first time my visor broke was last year. I hardly ever use it so i guess that is why it did not fall apart until last year. Anyway, the visor cracked at the hinge just like all of the others and it was really annoying because the heat in Texas prevents the visor from staying up once it has broken. So, I drive around with the visor down and it is annoying and kind of dangerous because it blocks my view. I went to a Honda dealership last year and the nice gentleman did not make me pay for it because he said this has been happening ALOT!!!! Well, it has been 1year and 2 months since it broke and it is now broken AGAIN!!! I called a different Honda (because I have moved) and they will not cover it and they want me to pay $150 for a faulty product. I called American Honda to inquire as to what i can do to get this on Honda's radar and the lady was most unhelpful. She basically told me that my concern was noted and could not give me any kind of good answer as to what the next step was. I realize that this issue might not be high priority for Honda, but at least tell me how i can make it a high priority...what we need to do in order to change something. UGH!!! This is my second Honda and I had no problems with the first one. This one is putting a bad taste in my mouth.

PLASTIC DRIVER SIDE VISOR BREAKS AT THE HINGE.

If this is a factory defect, then we should contact American Honda, yes I know, lot of you have spoken to a CUSTOMER SERVICE (the little, don't give a sh*t, just doing a job kind of person), Well call the Headquaters and ask to talk to the Marketing VP or higer up (they do give a sh*t) after explaining your problem, which is recurrent and clearly a manufacture's defect, voice your disatifaction and the possibility of your next purchase (which is coming up within 6 months) it may not be a Honda, Toyota or Kia (which you have one in your family) gives you better customer suppot. Explian how you have been a loyal customer for years and you may be depending on how satisfy you are with their response to your Legit complain.

Lastly, you can go to the JUNK yard and get a pair fairly inexpensive, is only 2 screws under the cover (be careful not to break it), a 5 minute job and labor is free unless you'll treat yourself to a latte for being so good.

We bought our 2006 Civic LX in October of 2005 and this is the 4th time getting these damn things fixed. This time around we are out of warranty, but I told the dealer that the visors are not more than a year old because they BREAK EVERY YEAR and this has been on ongoing issue. No exaggeration...EVERY YEAR they break. For God knows what reason, Honda will not make any type of changes and install new visors. They insist on putting the same very obviously defective sun visors back in. You can bet your ass that I will call corporate each time they break insisting that they are replaced at the company's expense. Why shouldn't they be? They never last long enough to go out of warranty (~3 years). If they broke for the first time after warranty, I'd say ok, well that's why there are warranties, but come on - they are basically disposable visors at this point.

Utterly ridiculous.

Visor set #1 failed within one year...could not put the visor up, which obstructed my view. I had to replace both visors ($48.00 + tax each). Within 6 months or so, set #2 broke; again $96.00 + tax to replace both. Within 6-10 months after that, set #3 broke and we are currently dealing with that. When it gets so bad that I can no longer put the visor up, I'll replace it. The cost and the CA sales tax have gone up so likely I'm looking at $120 to replace both.

This is an ongoing defect. FIX IT, HONDA!

So of course 1000 miles outside of warranty my visor falls apart. It's only been used with normal use, nothing hung from them. After a bit of reading, I see it's a common complaint :( Honda should definitely fix this.

I have had the sun visor (passenger or driver) replaced 4 times already, and it just broke again. My warranty is over. I'm now dealing with their national customer service dept., who may "provide some assistance." IMO, this is a defective part from a lousy supplier, and they should fix it free of charge as long as it continues to break.

i absolutely love my car no gripes... have had a few recalls which i brought car in for and car was ok....however the sun visors keep coming apart every time u go to put them back up...my warranty runs out i believe on 07/08/2009 and today is 07/07/2009...how convenient this started right before my warranty ran out and was unable to get into the shop in time. my self and several friends who are also honda civic owners think that we are not the only ones having this prob and honda should do a recall.

I have had three visors replaced in three years!!! Twice on the driver's side and once (so far) on the passenger's side. I don't have visor CD organizers or things hanging off of them. I don't really ask that much of my visors, only that they go up and down--ok, occasionally to the side-- but that's their job! That's what they're there for! Nevertheless, about every 10,000 miles one breaks, and since I had to pay for this last one, it's getting to be a pain in the ass. Because it wasn't under warranty, I got a "goodwill" fix where I only had to pay $25-- FOR A PROBLEM THEY KNOW ABOUT BUT WON'T RECALL. I am calling the corporate office next and citing all these other complaints in my case for the refund of my $25. (800)999-1009

I have always thought that Honda were good vehicles, hoever, I am beginning to doubt it. My car is 2 years old but has 65k miles. My sun visors began to break this summer and did not have the time to go to the dealer, not that it would have done any good anyway. I took my car in for the annual inspection and asked if they have had any complaints about the sun visors, their response was "oh yes". When asked if Honda would pay the replacement they said no because my car was no longer under warranty because of the mileage. What kind of crap is that? The car of course would not pass inspection without the visors in working order. It cost me $180.00 to replace. It's time for Honda to step up to the plate and do a recall on these visors. Its a pain in the ass, not to mention it poses a vision problem.

Same problem that 7 other Civic owners have documented. Sun visors initially separate, but eventually come apart and droop into your line of sight. Driver side failed first; then passenger side failed. Both replaced under warranty. I think I'll check to see if sun visors out of the Accord will fit when I have to have them replaced again when the car is out of warranty coverage. The visor appears to be about the same size as the ones in my 2003 Accord and they seem to be a better design.

Honda will not recall this problem. When my warranty runs out at the end of

September I will be charged for another one when it breaks again.
