Civic DX 1.8L

Why will my trunk not open with my key? I have greased it and looked and nothing is broke. I can just use the button inside but it would be nice to not go inside the vehicle every time.

Civic EX 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,000 miles

The trunk on the Honda would not open. Have never seen a car that does not have a key entry on the trunk. They provide a release, but get this, it's located inside of the trunk that won't open. WTF!! This is the second time this year that I have to take it into the dealership!!! Who, I repeat WHO makes a car that you can't get into the trunk if the lock fails????

Civic EX

My trunk on my Honda Civic EX 2-door is malfunctioning. The remote and the interior trunk release will not open the trunk. The dealer initially said that it was under warranty. Now, they called to say that they removed my back seats and that "something" is stuck in the latch or trunk release mechanism. The dealer said that the warranty does not cover this and that it would take all day to remove whatever is stuck in there. I told them that I was not going to pay for this repair because obviously there is something wrong with the trunk mechanism. I haven't heard back from the dealer yet. Has anyone experienced this problem or heard about it? If so how was it resolved?

Update from Jul 30, 2012: I told the dealer that I wanted to talk to their service manager and their district manager because I was not going to pay for the replacement. I said that I did not put anything unusual in my trunk for it to fail. I also told them that I should be able to use my trunk without worrying about the mechanism failing. They ended up taking the charge after I had to remind them of how many Hondas my family has purchased and how we were not going to buy anymore. Everyone should take a look at their trunk latch mechanism. It is just cheap plastic and totally exposed so anything could get caught in the mechanism. I had a small clothes hamper in my trunk and that is what somehow got into the mechanism! Good luck everyone!

Civic EX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

This is the second time my trunk has malfunctioned, first time it wouldn't close and we didn't know why, later found a very small spring laying in the trunk, got it in the latch and voila. Now the thing will not open, key doesn't work, open lever doesn't work, this model has no key hole in truck. Manual indicates lever to lower seats is IN THE TRUNK, can't get seat down to try emergency trunk opener. Anyone know how to get the back seat down from inside the car??
