My car started accelerating and almost kicking whether i was accelerating or stopping and the Check engine light came on. I brought it to the mechanic and he informed me my throttle body needed to be replaced. My mechanic is a good friend of mine and told me that cleaning the throttle body could fix the problem and he said it would save me 100's of dollars if it worked. It has been 3 weeks since and the cleaning seems to have worked. Idk if the throttle body problem is common in 2006 civics but it was a pain in the butt because i had just been to the mechanic a couple weeks earlier to fix my serpentine belt which set me back 550...this car is becoming a money pit.

Sudden unintended acceleration while stopped at a stop sign resulting in collision. May be caused by faulty throttle position sensor. Very dangerous since it can occur without warning

Car surged when attempting to stop. Put engine in neutral, engine surged and then went into idle mode. Took car into Honda dealer. Could not identify the cause.
This is the second such occurrence in about 8 months. Reported this both times to the NHTSA. Have heard nothing back from them. I believer Honda is avoiding taking action and trying to identify the cause.

Sudden and unintended acceleration while stopping a car
I was driving with my wife and 2 kids at about 5 km/h doing a left turn and stopping at a parking spot. The car suddenly accelerated and surged to high RPMs and slammed into a wall at the end the parking spot and remained in high RPMs where the only option remained to stop the engine was to remove the keys out of the ignition.
