About 6 months after a driver's air bag recall was carry out at the dealership, an annoying air bag light would come on but would not remain on when the car was off and started again. A friend of mine had a code reader which indicated a permanent open circuit to the driver's side air bag. I assume that a poor electrical connection was made when the air bag recall was carried out but found that the air bag unit had to be replaced.

How can a non-movable part as a air bag suddenly go bad? Safety equipment that can fail at anytime and you may just think it is a seat belt or sensor issues.

My SRS Airbag light stays on. This vehicle has not been in an accident recently. This is of great concern to me considering its a safety issue. Honda needs to have a recall for this issue on this year model vehicle considering this is a common problem from what I've read on other car forums for Honda.

Update from May 4, 2011: Spent 3 hours at the dealership trying to find out what was going on. They said it could be two different things and had me come back later in the day after they called Honda out in CA for more information. Went back this afternoon and they did more in depth tests requiring them to remove the seat from the car. They determined that it is the weight sensor for the airbag in the passenger side seat that has malfunctioned. The dealership didn't know what caused it to fail or why. Unfortunately for me my car is no longer under warranty and its not part of a recall. They have ordered a new weight sensor for the airbag and will replace it.

I thought this would be covered under warrenty, however the garage informed me after three years the only car parts that are covered are the gear box and engine. My concern is when I purchased the car in 2008 (vehicle 2 years old) it had been in an accident and the garage had to replace the airbags. Due to this concern I thought they would at lease put the car on the computer to find out the problem free of charge.

Civic EX

I go and buy a BRAND NEW 2006 Honda civic EX, and in less than a week the SRS indicator light comes on and now I have to go back to the dealership and get it fixed! I live like over 100 miles away, and this is a REAL PAIN IN THE BUTTOCKS! I should NOT have to deal with this on a BRAND NEW car, especially from a dealer as respected for quality as Honda!

This week I started the car and the air bag light did not shut off. It states in the manual that there is assistance needed in the air bag(s). Although the passenger air bag light does turn off.
