I own a 2006 Honda Civic si, which I purchased new from dublin Honda in dubiln, ca in 2006. My car has always had a problem shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, even when it was brand new. It would sometimes "pop" out of gear unless I held the shifter for a moment after shifting. The car now has 67500 miles on it, and two weeks ago, the clutch/transmission abruptly stopped working. I brought it to sunnyvale Honda, who wanted to charge me nearly $1900 to repair the clutch. I declined, instead I brought it to a private mechanic who charged me $1140. The mechanic showed me that the pressure plate in the clutch had simply snapped in half, which caused the failure. However, as soon as I got the car back, it was apparent that the transmission had also been badly damaged as a result, and now the transmission grinds every time I try to put the car into 4th gear. As a result, I had to return the car to the mechanic, who estimates it may cost $2000 or more to rebuilt the transmission. I feel that this is unacceptable for a car with 67,500 miles on it, and it is a design defect that the pressure plate snapped. This particular car has a history of numerous complaints regarding a defective transmission, which Honda refuses to acknowledge. I own a 2006 Honda Civic 2 door coupe. It is currently in the service shop at the local Honda dealer as it requires a new transmission only 5700 miles past the drivetrain warranty. It is my understanding that this is a "rare" occurrence as stated by the service manager and usually happens with cars with much higher mileage. It is a manual transmission that as of 2 weeks ago has been slipping, grinding and whirring. I have requested that the Honda customer service center get involved due to reports you have published starting back in 2001 about faulty transmissions in Civics. There has been no recall since it has been determined it is not a "safety" issue. How can this be"? when you pull out into traffic and your gears slip giving you no acceleration?" I purchased a Honda due to its "longevity" and as of this point, I will never purchase another Honda again. The consequences of this faulty transmission is that it has leaked into my clutch and requires a new clutch, transmission and driveshaft at a cost to me of over $5000 when I still owe $7500 on a car that's only 4 years old with 65722 miles. I am paying for a rental as insurance does not cover this and I am truly upset that there was never a recall, especially since there are many many reports about Honda Civics transmission problems dated back to 2001. Its obvious that there is something wrong and would appreciate that you all investigate this further so that no other people have to go through what I am going through.

The drive-by-wire throttle system equipped on the vehicle has been very tardy in its response time to throttle-pedal input. This was already a "recall" for this vehicle, and has since gotten worse after the new software was installed on the vehicle. For instance, if downshifting into first gear, quite often will the engine accelerate itself and push the vehicle for extended amounts of time (10-15 seconds) with no pedal input. This has occurred not only in first gear, but also fourth gear and sixth gear, not while downshifting but during normal highway driving conditions. The total number of incidences of this is approximately 10. Luckily I do have a clutch and when depressing the clutch, the engine will raise its revs from ~2000 to over 3000 and then drop off to idle. As well, while shifting gears, throttle response time from pressing the accelerator pedal is slow, and when releasing the throttle pedal there is a 1.5-2 second delay. Not so safe in heavy traffic.

My 2006 Honda Civic si has problems with gears one (1) through four (4). The biggest problem is the lack of smooth shifting and erratic grinding resulting from shifting through those gears. Grinding occurs when the vehicle is at a stop and the clutch is shifted from neutral to first (1). Grinding also occurs when the vehicle is in motion and shifted from first (1) to second (2), second (2) to third (3), and third (3) to fourth (4). The grinding is most prevalent in the second (2) and third (3) gears, with first (1) and fourth (4) being more minimal. The grinding is also most prevalent during cold weather and/or when the car was not given time to warm up. In addition to the grinding issues of the manual transmission of my 2006 Civic si, surging and jerkiness can be felt from neutral to first (1) and first (1) to second (2). Notchiness can also be felt within gears one (1) through four (4).

My 2006 Honda Civic si has an issue with "hanging revs" that even after the release of the gas pedal the rpms seems to stay steady for 1-2 seconds. The inability of the dbw system will eventually lead to early clutch failure, also there is surging and jerking in 1st-2nd gear. I must say that it makes me very nervous to drive because I can't predict what the car will do. The car also seems to have a notchy, stiff, and grinding 3rd gear that won't seem to go away even with recommended fluid.

Within weeks of purchase, returned to dealership regarding excessive grinding of gears, lack of confidence in engaging gear change all when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Dealership suggested it to be break in period or that I wasn't used to a performance 6M transmission (I drive a 2003 Nissan 350Z 6M). Next visit, resulted from more of the above, I cited website research and reference to transmission fluid not of quality. Dealership did change and problem was lessened. Third visit, had service tech drive vehicle and he came to conclusion that "it would get better with use", I told him that I couldn't believe that Honda would accept that solution. I then drove for period of time thinking it was my skills and that it would be better when broken in, until finally, I called out of frustration and concern for my safety because the transmission was actually popping out of third gear to neutral after I felt like it was engaged, or I was having to double clutch/shift and thus, causing me serious safety concerns and near collision/rear end due to the unexpected times it would occur. This last visit to the dealership I was told that the district manager would have to drive and we'd schedule a visit when he was in town. This time they had the vehicle for two days and reported that both dm and service manager drove without any recognition of reported symptoms and nothing was done. I was told they have not had this complaint, they took some compression readings and they would keep in touch. I accepted, but visited my sales person, and expressed my concerns and suggested that I was so disappointed in this "non-typical" Honda response that I sell the vehicle. The symptoms persist causing me a lack of confidence in vehicle performance and concerns for the safety of myself, other passengers and other vehicles. Thus, leading me to file this complaint.

The transmission will not engage 3rd gear correctly and causes the transmission to grind and pop into neutral when you think you are in 3rd gear. This issue is dangerous and could cause a wreck. Honda denies the problem but there are several petitions online about this issue. This issue is the worst when it is cold out and the car is cold. It has been doing this since the car got to about 5,000 miles.

1. problem has been occurring from the beginning. 2. in the 2006 Honda Civic si there is a grind going into 2nd gear at times, and also 3rd gear does not always fully engage. 3. nothing was done to correct the failure. The dealer turned a shoulder and stated they were unable to replicate the very obvious problem.

On my 06 Civic si's 6speed. The third and fourth gear do not engage, when then do they popped out and are rejected. This happens more frequently when it is cold however it also dose it when warm, randomly. The geartrain seems to be very notchy overall and getting worse. I have had this problem fixed by the dealer once but the problem quickly came back. The dealer refused to fix the problem again, claiming that it was not reproducible. This is a common problem and must be fixed. There are hundreds of people in varying climates with this problem. 1st gear locks out on a dead stop, which means if I were on a hill, I would try to go into 1st gear, and instead of going into first, I roll back and hit whatever is behind me if I cannot catch it in time. 3rd gear kicks back and grinds, which may lead to being rear ended if the driver behind me does not notice this.

The third gear in the 6 speed manual transmission does not fully engage under higher rpms causing grinding and a mis-shift. Causes major wear on the gears and synchros. Dealer refuses to acknowledge the problem and is claiming it is the drivers fault.

I have a 2006 Honda Civic si. The tranmission has had problems shifting into third gear. On many occasions the shifter has popped out of third gear while driving. I brought the car to Honda with this problem. They changed some fluid and hoped it would fix it. It didn't. it's been several months since then, and the problem seems to be getting worse. I hope Honda can figure out how to fix this, because it doesn't seem safe.

(1) the event leading up to the failure would be while speeding up and shifting into 2nd gear and 3rd gear sometimes there is a grinding noise, and some other times it pops out of gear totally. (2) the failure that is occurring is that sometimes it pops out of gear and then there is also a grinding noise. The consequences that come with this is while driving on the highway if you speed up and your car pops out of gear it could cause you to crash. Also it is causing internal problems within the car. (3) Honda has done nothing to fix this problem, so hopefully they will after the complaints come in.
