I had to replace the left front wheel bearing at 84,xxx miles (posted previously). Then at 106,000 miles, car had been making wow-wow-wow tire/wheel noise again for several months. Jacked care to test the rear bearings and the right rear bearing was noisy. I replaced it myself with a new hub (includes bearing) from O'Riley for $60.00. Only takes about 40 min. I also replaced left rear hub to ensure it would not be a problem in near future. So for 120.00 I got two new rear hubs and bearings. (Honda wants quite a bit more for these). Civic is nice and quiet again and joy to drive. Minor problem, but seems to be a common one on these. Car was only driven on paved roads.

Had an annoying noise from left front and it got worse when I applied brakes. Kind of a wow-wow-wow sound. I thought it was the tires, so had them rotated, did not make any difference (near new Mich. tires)

I did a break job as left pads were wearing kind of uneven, but they were not very old either. Finally decided it had to be a wheel bearing or CV joint.

Dealer said it was wheel bearing on test drive but would confirm. They replaced left front WB and that fixed the problem. Its a joy to drive again. Had never had a WB go bad as such low milage.

I kept hearing a humming noise, in the left rear, that sounded like a snow tire. When driving down the road, at 40 m.p.h. or faster and I would suddenly steer the car to the right and the noise would quit. While driving straight or steering to the left the dull humming noise would remain the same.

I purchased a wheel bearing hub for approx. $80.

I removed the left rear wheel/tire, brake caliper, brake rotor and wheel bearing hub. There appeared to be nothing wrong with it, as it turned as easy as the new one, so I wiped it out with a clean rag, sprayed some silicone lubricant in it and reinstalled it.

Then I removed the right rear wheel bearing hub and found water and rusted parts...plus, it didn't turn/rotate as smoothly as the new one. After lubing and reinstalling the new bearing hub, the noise ceased and the car is quiet again.

This was my first wheel bearing problem on the front that kept eating up my tires and making a lot of noise. I thought the tire were making the noise when the mechanic replacing the tire notice the wheel was fixing to fall off .Told my wife how lucky we were not to have had an accident .

Warning to other Honda Civic owners your life is at risk if you hear a rumble inside your Honda Civic have your wheel bearings checked. This Time I get to replace the left rear wheel bearing my brake shoes and belt are fine but so far this is my second wheel bearings I replace on this Honda Civic what is wrong with this picture looks like the

In April of 2009 I went to the dealership because I was hearing a loud roaring noise coming from the rear of the car. I was told it was my tires. Well no &^#*, whats the cause of the problem? Alignment they tell me. Seems to be their answer for everything. That same day I had the recalled O rings replaced. Fine, great. No charge for that.

Two months later I hear the roaring noise again. Now what? I took car back to same dealership and all of a sudden, only a couple thousand miles later, Honda tells me my rear wheel bearings are bad, and they need to be replaced. Hmmm. Could this have been caused by the faulty O rings that were JUST replaced due to a recall?? Why didn't they catch this 2 months before when I took it in??

Now part of me thinks either the mechanics at the dealership didn't check the bearings like they should have OR they did check them and saw they were messed up and didn't tell me because Honda would be responsible for fixing the problem they caused.

I'm so frustrated with this car and with Honda in general. My family has always driven Honda's and they have been happy with their performance. I cannot say the same for this car. It seems like every few months I'm having work done. By the way, the roaring noise was NOT because of the alignment or bearings. Its actually the Rear Upper Control Arms, causing the tires to wear unevenly. This would have been good to know several sets of tires ago. Thanks again, Honda.

I noticed this problem around the same time that the AC compressor died. This repair was covered under the wheel bearing recall. However, this recall notice went out in August 2007 and I was never notified, not even when I had the vehicle into the dealer for service at other times since Aug '07. This is a safety issue that could have caused the wheel to fall off causing an accident, yet Honda was hardly aggressive in notifying owners. After having the repair done in early December '09, the same problem or a similar problem appears to be back so it's another trip back to the dealer. Based on the problems I've had so far and the problems others have had with this model, it may be time to start brushing up on the CA Lemon Law.
