Civic LX 1.8L I4

The sun visors on this generation of Civic are complete garbage. They rely heavily on poor-quality adhesive for structural support and fail frequently. I had to replace mine twice.

Happened first to the driver side visor and did a DIY fix. Now at 100,000 miles happened to the passenger side visor as well. Definitely annoying, potentially dangerous.

THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. Visor is split at seam that is essential to hold in place. Honda Dealer, Pearson Honda 14001 Hull Street Road, Midlothian VA 23112 fixed it but said it was not covered under recall. Other people have reported on forums that THEIR DEALER DID REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE WHEN OUT OF WARRANTY. Or they bought the part cheaply and put it on in 5 minutes.themselves

We need to use the sun visor every day, several times a day. We are always driving into the rising or setting sun. Must either duck under the visor or hold up when not needed. Or duck under or hold when driving into sun to see the road. Need to take hand off wheel which is a safety hazard. Cannot see cars or pedestrians well in either case.. Nearly ran over a pedestrian in parking lot. Did not see her at all because of the visor was broken.

This happened before to a relatives 2007 Civic and to my 2003 Honda Accord. Honda has not fixed the problem in their newer models. They are responsible for continuing to disregard consumer needs.

This is the same problem in the class action suit though my car did not have nearly the miles on it back then and it was not yet a problem.

Please help me get my money back. Thank you.

Sun visor broke in 2015. Spent $99 on replacement in May 2015. car dealer informed me it was past warranty ( by ONE year) I submitted a claim to Honda and they denied it. Visor broke AGAIN in spring of 2017. Dealership says there is only 12,000 mile/ 12 months warranty on the replacement- So legally it is on me again to pay for replacement- Bullshit.

The upper portion of the visor (the part with the rod attachment running through it) just randomly broke. I went to a friend's house for a few hours, came back to my car and it had snapped down the length of the visor. Now the visor won't stay up; it is constantly hanging down and it makes it difficult to see and to keep the window screen in place. I saw that there was a recall for this; however, my defect occurred after the recall expired. Lucky me...

Did not receive the notice or recall on my vehicle - so after almost crashing my car when the driver side visor fell in my face while on the freeway.

Now I have to incur the cost of replacing this - Honda should make an exception and reimburse me.

So sick of this car. I can't afford to buy something else, however this is paid off. Also this car was bought brand new. After the two years when the clear coat started to come off I basically had to harass them to fix it. They redid the trunk and roof eventually. AC went out a few times. A Honda/Acura mechanic I see has told me that rocks have gotten into something. Then the sun visor not staying up. I took it off a few months ago. Asked about it yesterday and was quoted $120.00 to fix it. Never mind... then had the airbag fixed yesterday.

A couple years ago I received a notice to have my visor replaced due to faulty part, The passenger side started to have issues so took it to Honda to have replaced. about a year later the same part started having the same issue and now does not work worth a damn. About 6 months ago the driver side started having the same issue and now is this annoyingly dangerous part in my view of stop lights.

Apparently, this is a big issue with these cars and Honda needs to address the problem and at least help cover the cost of repairs. It's annoying to have a visor that falls apart when it is one of the least used parts of the car.

My driver side sun visor broke in 2011. Four years later the passenger side is broken. Such a pain to take time off from work to go to a dealer, I just used a clip. Guess I'll order the one from Amazon ($50 +) and try to fix it myself.

Civic

  • Manual transmission
  • 69,000 miles

In 2011 Honda settled a class action suit regarding defective sun visors. As a result, my 2007 Honda Civic had two sun visors replaced in, I believe, 2012. Now both are cracked, just as the originals were. I just had the passenger side visor replaced at a dealer, parts and labor=$100. Now the driver side visor cracked. It flops down and is both distracting and a hazard (in the halfway position, its edge aims at my forehead). A reasonable person would believe that a car accessory should last more than 2 1/2 years. I will put a clip on it, as was suggested several years ago and will ask Honda, at first nicely, to make this situation right.

Any others having issues with the replacement visors? Thanks.
