Civic SI 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 1,000 miles

i wasn't even do for the first oil change and the problems for the tranny had already started. second and third gear would grind and pop out during the shift or long after the shift. i was surprised, but took it in to the dealer because i was 55,000 miles away from the warranty expiring to get it checked out. the dealer was very rude and quick to blame me for the problem. they said i should stop redlining it, press the clutch all the way ect... at this point i had never even given the car more then 20% throttle or more then 3.5k RPM. they claimed i was the only one with this issue so it was a "driver error", i found hundreds like me who either were denied or accepted for transmission issues.

so i went back with more proof of the common issue nation wide. so they finally took in the car to see if my car was effected. after leaving my car at the dealer for days at a time with nothing but full tanks of gas missing, and stories of how people saw my car get abused down by the road by every young man who worked there like they stole it, i went to another dealership in another state! almost two years and countless stress someone else fixed it. I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER HONDA.

Civic SI

  • Manual transmission
  • 25,000 miles

I will never buy another Honda vehicle as long as I live. I will also dissuade others from buying them as well. I have been fighting with Honda over this tranny problem for the last 5 years. Honda America did agree to replace the transmission once before around 35K miles and they ASSURED me it was with a superior replacement. Now I am at 70k miles and 3rd gear pops and gring again.... trouble shifting into 4th gear from third as well. Calling Honda America again and hopefully honda replicates the problem and they cover it... I will not put a dime into a tranny repair for this car.... the tranny has 35K miles on it. Honda is going to lose all their loyal customers over this.... I am one of them.

Civic SI 2.0L 4 cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 100 miles

I bought a Brand New off the showroom floor 2007 Honda Civic SI Sedan. I love Sport Sedans and the car at the time fit in my budget. I didn't even drive the car because with all the research I did at the time I knew that's what I wanted. I figured with the reliability with Honda I wouldn't have a problem.

Well.........I learned to drive on a Standard transmission when I was 16 because Dad bought me a car with a standard and said learn how to drive it or don't drive. So I know how to drive a standard (I was 24 when I bought the SI) and from DAY 2 (I was too excited to notice day 1) from me owning that car it was Difficult to shift into 3rd gear. Why I thought it was just because it was new I have no idea (all of the cars I've owned with a manual transmission were used) so I just assumed it needed to be broken in. After about 6 months and around 4,000 miles I was getting frustrated. I was literally having to try and shift into 3rd, pump the clutch back out and try to shift into 3rd again for it to go in. I contacted the dealership and of course they haven't heard of anything like that and they would have to drive it and blah blah flippin blah.

I did a little of my own research and went on the internet and starting looking up the situation. I found lots of the same kind of problems with Honda 6 speed trannies. People have even had problems with the Acura RSX. I went on to Youtube and there were people that had put video camera's in the car to video tape them driving to prove to the dealership because everytime they drive the car it magically drives perfect and shifts like a hot knife through butter. One guy even had the car pop out of gear while driving!!!!

Instead of me messing with all the B.S. especially seeing that people were having to video tape themselves driving to prove to Honda what the problem is I went on January of 2008 (Exactly 1 year later) and with 7,000 miles on my 2007 Honda Civic SI I traded it in. I was tired of the hassle and frustration!

My advice............BE AWARE of the Honda/Acura Manual Transmissions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Civic Hybrid

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,054 miles

Last night I was in a parking structure which happens to be down hill and a dead end. I was looking for a parking space and as I was driving the the hill I missed a parking spot, as I tried to reverse my vehicle to park my car on the space I had passed my car continued to rolled down in REVERSE GEAR. AS I was rolling down I hit my brakes and tried to switching gears. My car has Gear S and L, but none of them worked and I just kept on going down the hill. Finally I just hit my brakes and put my car in park. I ask for assistance and three gentlemen tried helping with no success. My Car would just go forward instead of reverse. Finally I called the tow t Truck to get me out of the hill. I had my car off for about 15 min with my emergency lights on. I was blocking three cars and got yelled at for parking in such manner. Finally the tow truck guy was able to just get into my vehicle and place it on reverse and the car was able to back up the hill and do a U turn to exit the parking. I do not know if allowing the car to be shut down for 15 min, it allowed the computer to restart and allowed the gear to kick in but it was frustrating and scary. This has already happen to me going up hill, the car rolls down on drive. I would be crazy to drive this c car in San Francisco.
