On almost every horizontal surface of my car the paint is delaminating and clear coat is peeling off. I am taking it to Honda tomorrow to hopefully get it repainted. I will post an update on how much it costs me out of pocket and how they handle my case.

My paint/clear coat is coming off on the driver's side roof and driver's side window frame. This car is not that old! I've taken care of the car with washes only like they said and the paint/car is starting to look like a beater. Called Honda and they won't do anything about it. Maybe I just won't ever buy a Honda again then!

Hello Everyone,

My dad helped me get my very first car A Honda Civic Ex 07!!!! I was the happiest girl Ever! until 2010 came along and I started to notice white spots on the hood and top of my car.....I ignored it but NOW its gotten so bad!!! my car looks like a junker! Now I notice many Hondas that look like mine??? that got me thinking that it has to be a paint defect....so I've done my research and there are hundreds even thousands of people with the same problem on there hondas :( I've called the dealer and they still have not called me back on it. I don't expect them to. From what I've read Honda just shrugs it off as normal wear and tear. That's So Wrong! I've worked my ass off to pay for my car. & now it looks like a junk car when its not! It makes me so sad that Honda won't take better care of there buyers.

paint is peeling/cracking paint is peeling/cracking paint is peeling/cracking paint is peeling/cracking

About 3 years of owning this car, I noticed the clear coat coming off the roof of the vehicle, the problem progressed very quickly. The hood of the car started getting what is know as "chicken feet", which are small cracks in the clear coat. The fading has continued on front fenders, truck, and doors. For a vehicle that is only 5 years old it looks like it is 10. I love my Honda but if you look on the road, Honda's may hold their value mechanically but as far as appearances they suck. So now comes the solution. Or so called. I received a letter from Honda of America, stating that they have extended the warranty on the paint, as they have accepted responsibility for faulty clear coat application on hood and front fenders only. Now if you check out most complaints the problem started on the roof with the clear coat coming off. Honda's solution.....they will cover only the hood and front fenders, with the customer paying for all other paint. So I will have to come up with the rest of the money to paint the entire car. Way to go Honda, admit the clear coat was not up to par, but only on part of the car. SMH

Back in 2009 honda repainted the hood of my car, told me the trunk of the car, fading at the time was due to parking under a tree. I don't have a tree anywhere that I park under, so only the hood was repainted. Now few years later and several black honda's I see on the road, look like skunk....honda recalled the paint on the hood and front fenders only from 2006-2010 black cars. HOWEVER, THE WHOLE PAINT JOB HAS TO BE RECALLED!! Honda told me they would only give me so much towards a paint job. The roof of my car has bare metal strips going down it and now around the doors, trunk, windshield, frame of car, you can see where the paint is starting to strip away. This was the first car I ever bought brand new and I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN IF THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPAINT ALL THE CARS THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. How can they recall the hood and not the rest of the car?? They know they did not test the black paint and mass produce this car to get it out there and make millions selling this car.Everyone that has this problem, has to report it to the BBB so they will get Honda to recall the whole paint job!! I won't get into the other problems I had too with this model, I will save that for later, but anyone that wants to buy a BLACK HONDA, DO NOT DO IT, BUY SOMETHING ELSE!!!

The paint on the top of the car is beginning to fade, resulting in many white spots on the car. This is quite noticeable with a black car. I had it checked out by a detailing shop and they said this is a result of a mishap or mistake when the car was being manufactured. The guy told me that after 6 years, the car should not already be fading. I decided to report the issue because I just got a recall notification for paint cracking on the hood and fenders. I believe that this is related to my issue. I am going to have the car inspected by a local Honda dealer. Honda should pay for the cost to get a paint job to fix the fade spots.

Honda sent a recall on bad paint on my car, even after it is obvious that the problem is all over the car they only are willing to paint hood and two fenders, no blending or nothing else. So even though i take care of my car the paint is 5 years old so a newly painted hood is going to stand out like a sore thumb. how can they only fix one part but not the rest. Well this is my second and last Honda, just one less customer,,,,

I am getting tired of complaining about this issue. Honda does not care at all, the only way they are going to do something is if a class action lawsuit is brought against them (which is happening in CA). I have talked to 3-5 different CS managers and NONE of them were helpful at all. They got on the phone and said the would not cover anymore than 75%. The other 25% is my problem because I purchased a Honda vehicle. Resale value??My car is worth nothing in its present condition.

I have worked as a automotive technician for 5 years and have lived in AZ my entire life. This does not happen unless you put cheap paint, not enough paint went on at the factory, or the vehicle is +10 years old.

I have many more pics, apparently this site feels 6 pictures is enough.

the paint in my roof is just peeling away. It started as a small discoloration and quickly spread. It is probably spreading as I write this note. Any way I am very disappointed with the paint on this car and I have seen many other civics with the same paint problems that I am having (all on the roof) Isn't Honda going to to do something about this? It is especially bothersome to me since I am still financing this car which has been a very good car but just sickens me every time I see it's paint.

THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF THE ROOF AND WHITE SPOTS ARE APPEARING ON THE TRUNK. ITS MOVING. i TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND HAD MOST OF MY SERVICE WORK DONE THERE. THE SERVICE PEOPLE LOOKED AT IT AND AGREED THAT IT WAS NOT NORMAL. THE WARRANTY DEPT DENIED MY CLAIM. I SPOKE TO THE WARRANTY DEPT AND THE GENTLEMAN I SPOKE TO SAID THAT IT WAS ENVIRONMENTAL. PAINT IS SUPPOSE TO WITHSTAND THE ENVIRONMENT.

I JUST WANT MY CAR REPAINTED THE CORRECT WAY WITH THE CORRECT PAINT. I HAD SEVERAL MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR SINCE I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. IT HAD 24 MILES ON IT. IN THE FIRST 4 YEARS I HAVE HAD TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION, SOME OTHER MAJOR PROBLEM WITH A FLUID LEAKING INTO THE BOOTS A NEW MOTOR MOUNT AND NOW THE PAINT. ALL OTHER ISSUES WERE RESOLVED WITH THE 100, 000 MILE WARRANTY I PURCHASED (THANK YOU LORD I DID THIS) EVERY TIME I HAD TO USE THE WARRANTY IT COST ME $100.00. IF I HAD NOT HAD THIS WARRANTY I WOULD HAVE BEEN UP CREEK. AFTER I HAD THE CAR FOR A WEEK OR TWO IS WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEY ORDERED ME A NEW TRANSMISSI0N. I WANTED THEM TO GIVE ME A DIFFERENT CAR BUT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO THAT. THE CAR RUNS FINE BUT I FEAR THAT AS SOON AS I MAKE MY FINAL PAYMENT IT WILL BE NOTHING BUT A HEARTACHE.

I BOUGHT A HONDA BECAUSE EVERYONE TOLD ME THEY WERE THE BEST CAR ON THE ROAD. I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ACROSS THE STREET.

The paint is continuously fading/cracking. Spots on the trunk, roof, hood, around the windows. The clear coat is obviously peeling away. The hood has tiny spots but cover an area about 2 feet wide and they are very close together. The trunk is becoming completely faded. The roof has been repainted when it first started happening and has started fading again. The roof repainting Honda covered half but it's happening again. Also the dealership that did it did a HORRIBLE job. It's not seamless and looks like the just let the clear coat drip on to the sides. My car started peeling when it was 3 years old that is not normal and now it has gotten completely worse. I think all the pain will be messed up within the next year. I have seen cars that 10 years old not suffering these problems. The amount of complaints about this and Honda has done nothing, makes no sense. A car is supposed to last longer than 3 years. Also, if I ever wanted to sell it or trade it in it's going to affect the value considerably. Which was one of the perks of a Honda (good trade-in value).

2007 Honda Civic - exterior paint job began showing signs of peeling in 2010. I took it to the dealership expecting them to take responsibility - instead they called it normal wear and tear! Normal wear and tear in 3 years? I owned a 97 Ford Escort and in 8 years they paint did not fade or peel - under the same Florida sun conditions and performing the same wash, maintenance and due care as for the Civic. Now, I took the car back to Honda to get an appraisal to see about a trade in, and they are offering me a significantly lower value for the cost of getting the entire car repainted - a defective paint job for which they still are not assuming responsibility, are not willing to assume the cost to refurbish, and expect me to pick up the financial burden.

Our black 2007 Honda Civic EX Coupe has peeling/fading paint on the roof, which started about a year ago and has gotten progressively worse. The roof is an eyesore and makes the car look old and worn out. We have taken excellent care of this car since the day we bought it new, and have kept it garaged when not in use. We keep the car clean and waxed but it looks terrible. We have seen many other Honda Civics with similar roof issues here in Southern California over the last year, now that we're dealing with this issue with our Civic.

Honda needs to put a recall in place to re-paint the affected vehicles. We have had Hondas for almost 20 years but in light of this unacknowledged problem from Honda, we will not be purchasing another!

Went to dealer today, they said usually Honda covers 90% of the cost which means I will have to pay $200 to fix it. What a nice way for Honda to make money. Definitely needs to be a class action suit. I have tons of pics of other vehicles with the same problem.

Honda is messed up took my car in November when fading first started and now its the whole car hood trunk doors every part of my damn car, honda says there give me 200 out of the 2,000 to paint it, f*** them so far I've stopped 4 people from buying hondas and i have plenty more to convince, in the 4 yrs I've had my car I've changed the clutch the breaks the light and the sun visor , I've called and gone in personally to the dealers but according to them its all the florida sun and problems that I've started with my car! and the shop owner told his employee who is a friend of mine that i was a jerk and he wasn't interested in helping me! which is funny cause i did go in there very calm and was told since my warranty is up, it will be 150 just to look at my car.
