Ok, really? Paint peeling and fading on the roof of a car at 80K miles. This problem started a year ago when I noticed that the roof of the vehicle had a shade of "white" over the paint..... I thought, hmmmm maybe I didn't get all the wax off. NOPE. The clear coat had separated and shortly after just totally peeled off..... nope my beautiful Fugi blue car looks like someone poured bleach on the roof and at 80k miles I am embarrassed to be seen driving this vehicle. It looks like a junker. Called Honda American and they recognize there is a paint problem but are only willing to cover the hood and fenders..... wow, once again way to go. This is the last Honda I will ever buy

I Have Already Had My Left Side, Trunk, Roof, And Front Bumper Repainted. Now, The Trunk Needs To Be Redone And The Passenger Side Is Peeling Also. Honda Won't Fix It For Free, They Want To Split The Cost Which Is Bogus.

Noticed patches of white around the moon roof sometime early 2011. Slowly spread as clear coat eroded. Had the car for little less than four years at that point after buying new. Now starting to get white spots on hood and other parts. Honda dealer took notice of my complaint, said they would get me in touch with "Southeastern representative" and never did. Car looks like a clunker and is under six years old.

2007 honda civic, noticed spots three years ago that has now enveloped the entire roof ,quarters, and deck lid, along with what honda had already recalled for the fenders and hood cracking, they will repaint the fenders and hood, but have only offered to pay for half of the roof and quarters, and David in the warranty dept cant offer an explanation why they wont cover this obvious defect, as well as when we requested he would not tell us the brand name of the company that supplies the clear coating materials, also refused to state how long the clear coat is rated to last.

paint is peeling/cracking

A familiar story; although everyone who sees the paint agrees its faulty paint or clear coat, Honda has yet to agree to fix this. This is my 3d new Honda, but if this ends up coming out of my pocket I will drive Toyotas from now on. Honda, you are losing your strongest asset in letting your quality go downhill and making it worse by letting your customer service go with it!

I first noticed the paint beginning to peel a few years ago. It has progressively gotten worse to the point where the whole roof is starting the process of peeling. I regularly wash and wax my car to avoid issues such as this, however, from reading online, it seems to be a huge issue for many Civic owners. From my experience, Honda refuses to accept any responsibility for this issue and will not help fix it either.

I bought this car used and didn't care that the paint was faded. I figured someone simply ignored washing the car, but after reading so many blogs about the common paint problems, I felt that I had to share my information too. The car has peeling/fading paint on the roof, trunk, hood, and front fenders. It looks ridiculous and I think Honda should repaint it for free.

The paint is peeling and fadeing on almost every panel of the car. It looks awful and Honda says they will cover 50% of the cost to repaint top half of the vehicle, but I think it is ridiculous and they should repaint all of the CSR since this is a common problem. I run a detailing business and this is not normal wear and tear. also this problem will get worse extremely fast and will eventually cause rust to form on the car, so to truly fix the problem you have to paint the entire car not just top half.

I have a 2007 Honda Civic. Started having a paint issue last year. Called Honda, said they would only cover 50%. Put it off a couple of months due to the holidays. Called them back again and they told me the offer was only good for 30 days!!! No one had informed me that when I called. Now they said their offer expired. I'm sh*t of out luck. Luckily, I have a nice body shop near me that I'm taking my car to. Not giving Honda anymore business, not on this car, not on any other car in the future. Honda should be ashamed of themselves. Them screwing their customers on offers to fix their mistakes will populate a whole set of messed up cars roaming around the country. People will see how horrible Hondas as they drive around seeing all the cracked paint, paint peeling and fading.

Each dealership is allotted a goodwill assistance fund for odd cases like the peeling lamination. The dealer took FOREVER to respond to my request and now my roof, trunk and top of doors are peeling even more. They denied a full assistance, but are currently reviewing it for partial assitance. I suggest you contact your honda dealers to ask for help. My warranty is expired so they wouldn't cover the full. I also am considering posting all the pictures of other Honda Civic's I've seen with this issue and posting it to Facebook. Perhaps a major news station will pick it up and get some serious answers from Honda..

Update from Apr 18, 2013 They offered to pay $325 of a $1,300 paint claim... THAT'S AN INSULT. Share your stories on this blog! http://2007hondaciviclaminationcomplaint.blogspot.com/ We shouldn't have to pay for that to be repaired.

The primer/paint/top coat began to peel about 18 months ago. It is progressively getting worse. The problem seems to be contained to the roof and hood. I think there is a problem with the quality of the finishing products used by Honda.

Purchased this 2007 Civic brand new and couldn't have been happier. Until 2 years after the purchase my car looked as though someone poured paint thinner and salt on it. I have been to several dealers to try and get my Honda painted to no avail. Every dealer in the birmingham area has told me it was normal wear and tear - Tameron Honda Hoover, AL etc... I find it hilarious that I have a 2004 Mazda that makes my Honda look like a junker. The wife and I were out shopping for a new car this weekend and it wasn't a Honda. I have made sure to tell everyone considering buying a Honda my story. By a Toyota and save yourself from this awful company.

The paint on our 2007 Honda Civic is peeling off on the roof, trunk and hood. This car is not that old and a paint job should last longer than 5 years on a car. It is now down to the metal and looks terrible.

paint is peeling/cracking

I have received the recall for the hood and two front fenders to be repainted to due "crows feet" issue. The paint is essentially spreading and it looks like crows feet. Once these cracks intersect is when the chipping begins, then come along the rust. The have issued a recall for this defect and covered it well past a normal warranty which is great. However, they need to follow suit with the rest of the paint. The 2007 definitely had some issues with the paint gun/factory. Now, what I thought was a single issue, the roof of the car is flaking. Seems like the clear coat is flaking off and spreading at a fast rate. After researching online, I am not the only one with this issue and it seems to be affecting entire parts of the roof of the car. This is obviously a manufacturer defect with the clear coat application. Now the paint under the clear coat is being affected by this as well. This is an issue that Honda should address and I would love to find out their public relations email address and take this up as high as I can, to include my State Attorney General. I hope enough of us raise the issue to get the issue addressed.

Thank you,

2007 Honda Civic Si Owner (sole owner; bought new)

I own a 2007 Civic LX Grey and my clear coating has been disintegrating for awhile now. The clear coat is peeling from all the horizontal surfaces. It's spreading so fast. It didn’t look this bad a month ago. It is washed and waxed as needed and parked in my garage. It is so irritating to see this happening! I have a 1999 Honda Civic and never had this problem. This is definitely my last Honda.

We have owned our 2007 Honda coupe since it was new. We have it serviced regularly by the Honda dealer in Pleasanton. In July of 2011, we noticed that the paint started to fade in small spots on the top of the car in front of the moonroof. During a routine oil change we brought it to the attention of the service department. They said it looked like we had parked it outside in the sun or that it might have been parked under a tree and birds had pooped on it. At that time they said there was nothing they could do, that it was normal. Since it wasn't that bad we thought we would wait and see what would happen. Again, during the next oil change we asked again because the fading was becoming worse and now starting to peel. They said they would have the regional manager contact us. As you can guess that never happened. So now we are filing a complaint and joining the class action lawsuit. All we have asked is that the car be repainted. We are very disappointed that only after four years the paint on our car started to fade and now peel and that the dealer would not offer any assistance to remedy the problem.

I received a recall for the the paint cracking, peeling, fading on my car as long as it doesn't have over 1000,000 miles. IT WILL NOT COVER the whole car it will only cover the 2 front fenders, when in fact my entire car's black paint is gone on the top area of my car, Hood, Trunk, Top... and the paint is cracking and peeling on ALL of the edges of the whole car... the paint it bubbling ,cracking, peeling, fading on the side... i was told by the dealership that they will not cover anything but the fenders..... now how good will my car look with my hood and two front fenders painted and the rest of the car will still be rotting away...
