I have Honda Civic si 2007. I have been experiencing a problem with 3rd gear. It pops out and sometimes it's hard to get it in the 3dr gear. The problem happened more frequently when the weather is cool and it's intermediate. It could happen 2 times a day or 2 times a week depending on the weather/driving time and conditions. I took my car to the Honda dealership in Mahwah, NJ (as I been told car has been taking for the test drive 7 times and total 22 miles on it)and nanuet, NY(2 times total 10 miles) and I also called Honda of America to file a complaint about it 3 times(case # [xxx]). as a result dealerships couldn't replicate the problem and Honda of America only can advise me to go to the different dealership. I have extended warranty on this car it will expire in August 2013 and as I was told at Honda of America it becomes my problem after warranty will expire. This is the worst costumer care service owning a car I have ever experienced, and it's Honda. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I have a 2007 Honda Civic LX with 36,000 miles. I was turning left into a parking space going very slowly (<5 mph) when my vehicle suddenly accelerated. My foot was not on the gas pedal. I slammed on the brakes and the car continued to accelerate and I hit a curb which then caused the car to stop its acceleration. The brakes did not make too much difference as the car was continuing to move forward and rpms continued to increase as I tried to brake. Previously, I had a problem with high RPM's and increased acceleration and rough idling at 34000 miles. I took it to the dealer who replaced the engine mount which I found out was under my powertrain warranty. I have also had the battery replaced. Other than that, those are the only issues I have experienced until today. I called the dealer and they said it must be operator error, but why would the car continue to accelerate with my foot on the brakes? I checked the mat as well and it had not become entangled with the gas pedal as the dealer suggested. The car moving forward at high rpms by itself is a concern. I am happy that I did not have an accident or hit a pedestrian. I am filing this complaint because I believe that this is a serious issue with my vehicle and as I researched, I am finding that others are having the same issue as I am under some of the same circumstances. I am afraid to drive my car!

2007 Honda Civic, unintended acceleration has occurred 2 times while sitting in traffic with foot on brake, no interference from floor mat, car in drive. 1st time car had been driven 45 minutes, 2nd time only about 5 minutes. No parts have been replaced, but idle has been "relearned", and other software elements have been reinstalled. So far, technicians have not identified cause of unintended acceleration. Because it fortunately happened while driver's foot was on brake, no damage occurred, since driver was able to hold car in position until it was turned off the first time. Car was racing for about 10-15 seconds before turned off. When turned back on with car in park, the engine still raced for a couple of seconds then came back to normal idle and driver was able to drive to destination with no further problem. Car was taken the next morning to dealership and kept for two weeks while technicians tested it, drove it over 500 miles, had factory technicians come, and performed updates and reinstallations listed above. The car was declared safe and running according to Honda specs, so owner took back the car. Week later it happened again. 2nd time, driver was able to put car in neutral, at which point rpms rose to over 5000, then dropped back to normal idle. Currently car is being checked at dealership again.

I bought a new 2007 Honda Civic hybrid from a certified Honda dealership. The design flaw of the rear tire arms of the vehicle caused the tire arm to rub on the tires of the car until the tires were nearly bald causing the car to shutter and the structure of the tires to weaken endangering me and my passengers. When I took the car to Honda, I was forced to replace the tires prematurely 2 times since owning the car due to the irregular wear on the tires. Honda did not notify me of the problem, refused to pay for new tires but finally admitted after the second pair of tires were rubbed bald, that the tire arm of the car was causing damage to the tires. They repaired the tire arm, but would not pay for new tires. The transmission of the car is also flawed in design. Occasionally when accelerating, the gas pedal of the car can be pushed to the floor and the car will not continue to accelerate and will loose power. This has happened at stop lights, entering the freeway, and going up hills endangering my life and the lives of my passengers. Honda again, did not notify me of the problem, but told me when I brought the car in after experiencing the problems that I needed an upgrade to my computer and that those upgrades may fix the problem. Those updates to the computers effect the battery of the hybrid part of the car's engine. Those batteries are loosing the ability to hold a charge and causing the transmission to fail because the car relies on that battery power to run the engine. The gas mileage of the car has also been steadily declining. When the car was new, it got 45 mpg and Honda advertised it get 50 mpg, the car now gets around 33 mpg. The computer updates are changing the way the car runs off of gas and battery power and Honda is not replacing the faulty batteries. This has endangered my life and the lives of my passengers because the faulty batteries effect how the car operates.

I had the software updated in my 07 Civic hybrid in August 2010. Since the update the car has no electric assist when the battery is half full or less. My battery is in this state at least half of the time and Honda tells me that it is normal and that the lack of power when accelerating is the result of the update. This has made the car feel very unsafe to drive, especially when pulling onto the highway. I was almost rear ended the last week in August pulling on the highway because my car had no pickup as a result of this update.

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic. The vehicle was intermittently experiencing an increased stopping distance. While driving approximately 15 mph pressure was applied to the brakes and the vehicle did not stop until repeated pressure was applied to the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the rotors were worn. The authorized dealer replaced all four brakes; yet intermittently the vehicle continued to experience an increased stopping distance. She also stated that the vehicle surged forward from a stop resulting in a single car crash in which the air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed. The driver was injured. The vehicle was not examined to determine the cause of failure. The failure mileage was 3,000. The current mileage was 24,000. The VIN was unavailable.

I was almost in a serious accident as I went to make a right hand turn, and the car only accelerated at about 1/4 of its normal pace. I had to look down to make sure my foot was on the gas. When this acceleration failure occurred, the battery showed no charge, but it had shown almost a full charge when I first started the car, just a few minutes earlier. My car now cannot hold a charge at all. I park it fully charged, and when I start, it shows fully charged. Within the first mile of driving, it drops to 1 or no bars. It then has trouble accelerating, as the car cannot pull from the ima and it tries to charge the ima, instead of accelerating. This failure is now occurring daily. It is very difficult to drive to work, as I don't know when I can merge onto interstate and if the car will fail. It is usually fine after about 10 miles of driving, but my commute is only 12 miles, so I would say this makes a very large % of my commute dangerous. The service department updated software, but this has not improved the situation at all. I am keeping a journal of these daily activities, as the ima is still under warranty. My gas mileage dropped 20% over the past year, even though I do use ethanol free gas. This was the first indication there was a problem with the ima, but Honda simply gave me the brush off everytime I expressed a concern that this was an early sign that something was wrong.

I was pulling into a parking space (turning right into it and parking between cars), was almost at a full stop, about to straighten the wheels and put the car in park, when the engine accelerated to full speed. It jumped the little curb at the front of the parking space and went through a shop window at an angle, wedging in the doorway. It left acceleration marks on the sidewalk after jumping the curb, and the wheels were still spinning in the doorway until I turned the car off. The car was repaired, then towed to the Honda dealership, where it was tested, but they were unable to reproduce the problem. I never drove it again.

Was approaching traffic light traveling behind other vehicles and braking in preparation to stop, when vehicle engine began to Ram up and down while my foot remains on brake. I shifted gear to park and engine continued to rush up and down. I turned engine off, and then back on and the engine continued to rush up and down. I again turned engine off and then on and engine still rushed up and down. I turned engine off and then on again. Engine began to rush, but then returned to normal operation. I was very concerned and excited concerning potential recurrence leading to serious accident. Immediately took car to Honda dealer ship, explained situation. Dealer supposedly inspected and found no cause or explanation for problem. I reported problem in writing to american Honda auto Corp. Customer. Service. (this had occurred on 2 other occasions with minimal or momentary effect, thinking it was not a serious issue. This most recent case proved otherwise.

Throttle lag. Immediately upon purchasing and driving the Honda Civic ex 2007 there was a delay in response from pressing the accelerator to increasing the engine's rpms. There was a distinct difference between the car that was test driven and the car that was purchased. The dealer originally acknowledged the throttle lag between the two cars. They contacted Honda Canada and were told to properly "break in" the engine. This consisted of lugging the car in fifth gear (manual transmission) up a hill for approx 100 kilometers. They felt that the engine was tight and that this might help the throttle lag problem. It did, marginally. Further contact with Honda Canada was met with a response that throttle lag was a characteristic of the car and the drive by wire throttle system. Apparently throttle lag in drive by wire is not uncommon and there are some after market parts (sprint booster) to help the problem but not for Honda and they are only available in europe. The dealer suggested that perhaps it is a software issue but no software fix has been available through Honda Canada. There is most definitely a problem between the sending and receiving unit in the drive by wire system. This problem is more pronounced in some Civics than others. Although mine is pronounced, Honda Canada does not see it as a problem. It is most obvious on a steep hill where you must use the hand brake to keep from rolling backwards as there is approximately a one second delay between the time you press the gas peddle and the engine responds. Also if you tap the accelerator while downshifting the rpms will not increase at all.
