This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Honda dealer.
It started during a routine oil change at the dealer. The mechanic informed me, "you have an engine leak". We will schedule you in for a repair. Next week I pick the car up, drive it home and park it in my garage. A huge oil patch appeared under the car, at least 2 litres under the car. I filled up the oil crankcase and limped the car into the dealership. Fix #2 picked the car up again, left in the garage drove it for a few days. The same issue, an even bigger oil patch under the car. 2 to 3 litres of oil on my garage floor. Brought it back to the dealer again, and was informed 3 weeks later, "we can't fix the leak, Honda engineering has been informed" so we replaced the entire engine -short block. I finally picked up the car last week, apparently the oil leak was fixed to their satisfaction.
On the way home from the dealership, the manual transmission froze up. NO gears accept 3 and 4th, then rolled to the side of the road - I called the Honda Roadside assistance who towed it to the nearest dealer. Here is a brief list of other problems:
-paint peeling off of plastic, including bumpers and mirrors. -hand brake digs into the side of my leg and is painful on long trips. -severe oil leak, repaired 3 times. -catastrophic transmission failure.
On a positive note the dealer have been excellent throughout this whole awful experience. They have provided a courtesy car free and have promised to replace the 2008 Civic with a 2010 Civic at NO extra charge. I will confirm this as soon as I have the deal completed.

My '08 Civic less than 6 months old is leaking oil. I'm not sure if it's engine or transmission oil. It has a manual tranny. The engine oil still checks full on the dipstick. I've scheduled an appointment to get this repaired. It just bugs me that i've got oil spots on my driveway and garage from a new car. I immediately blamed this on my 5 year old Sierra pickup, but further investigation revealed it was the Honda! I've owned a lot of new cars over the years, but never had anything this new drop oil on my floor and/or driveway. I bought Honda this time specifically because I thought they were better quality especially in the small car line. I hope this isn't an indication of what's to come.

Just took my car in for routine oil change when they detected an oil leak. The guy at the Honda dealer said it is probably due to road salt on the engine. Bullshit!. They wanted to charge me one hundred dollars to investigate the leak. So after the oil change I took it to my regular mechanic and he found that there are at least two gaskets in the engine leaking. It comes down to two days for repair and one thousand dollars. Mind you, half of that is labor. I keep my car in a garage and wash it every four months. It is very upsetting to have a car only eight years old that is leaking oil. My last car was a Chevy Prism that I had for almost 17 years and 174,000 miles. I don't think this car will last that long. If the engine can barely make it to 100,000 miles, why would I sink more money into this car? I new I should of bought a Toyota! Will get rid of the car and drive my father-in-laws 1998 Chevy Prism that doesn't leak oil!
