Civic LX 1.8L

  • Manual transmission

Fuel economy has gradually fallen from 40 mpg (consistent from 2008 to 2015) to 25 mpg. I measure fuel consumption regularly - 2 or 3 times month - it fell gradually at 1-2 mpg per fuel tank. Sept 2015 it was 40/38.

Oct - Dec 2015 it was 38/36/35/33 mpg. Jan 2016 - March 2016 it was 32/30/28/25. It has nothing to do with the cold winter weather as in past winters it performed at 35/36 mpg in cold weather. A 10% drop off in cold weather is expected. It always performed at 40/42 mpg during warm weather.

The engine power and performance has not changed. The engine does not knock/hesitate/run rough. Fuel filter and air filter are changed periodically. Spark plugs were done at 100K (as recommended). I've had it read on computer twice - no codes come up. So, I have a 2009 Honda Civic with normal engine characteristics that only gets 23/25 mpg and has no codes showing. I might as well buy a big gas guzzler and ride in supreme comfort at 12 mpg.
