Civic EX 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

RPM drop as soon as A/C compressor kicks on. RPM go up and down, engine feels like it's going to die.

problem #1

Civic Si Coupe 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 34,000 miles

This is a design flaw and unavoidable in all cars especially manual ones. The Si's K20Z3 engine is no exception specifically being placed under significant load when turning on the A/C. This means requiring a higher rpm for start & go and maintaining a steady rpm when shifting. Otherwise the engine speeds will drop below the necessary rpm for each gear. Given the low torque of the Si's engine, heavy 15lb. flywheel, and soft factory tune, the A/C will significantly lag the car's performance, so quick shifting and precise pedal control will be necessary to prevent dragging the clutch.
