Civic LX 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

Similar description as others have stated, but my symptoms didn't appear for a few years apparently. I bought the car brand new. Issue didn't have an "onset" period... it just started out of nowhere.

From a complete stop the car will jerk when accelerating. It's like there's a momentary lapse in gas being pumped to the engine and the car stumbles to power itself. Accelerating very lightly seems to be no problem most of the time, but accelerate at an average rate or more and it jerks almost every time. I am not an aggressive driver that takes off quickly from stops... I mean come on, I drive a 1.8L civic 4banger. The problem seems to be worse when going uphill. Once I'm up to speed 25+ MPH it goes away. I can get over the embarrassment of lurching back and forth in traffic, but this can be VERY dangerous if making a quick/tight turn in front of traffic. No check engine light has ever come on.

A friend mentioned there may be metal shavings in my transmission (CVT) fluid, so I changed it. Did not help. Thought it might be my spark plugs, plus it was time to change them anyway. Did not help. Changed oil, filter, air filter. Did not help. Cleaned out fuel lines, didn't help. Catalytic converter is operational. Fuel pump is operational. No leaks. Car just passed emissions test 2 weeks ago. I thought it might be the fuel filter (which is housed inside of the fuel pump) but it started to hit me... I don't think the issue lies in the fuel/exhaust system at all because my overall performance hasn't suffered. My MPG's are still as good as ever and the car accelerates at low and high speeds just fine aside from the initial "jerk". Plus the issue is not random, I can tell about 95% of the time exactly when it's going to happen so it's very consistent. Maybe this is a flaw with the ECU. Honda doesn't have an answer for me.

This is the first car I purchased on my own and it's such a shame because I thought I picked a reliable brand. I have maintained it well and kept up with oil changes and maintenance. The problem doesn't seem to be getting worse but the car just feels like a ticking time bomb at this point.

Civic LX 1.8L

  • CVT transmission
  • 300 miles

Car hesitates from a stop or will skip. Will be worse when going around corner from stop and even worse if go up a hill. Car is leased. Had Honda dealer check twice but denied there was a problem. Will return to dealer and have them fix it or hopefully give me another car. Good luck with that!

has anyone had a hesitation problem with 2015 Honda civic? It hesitates from a stop, drive about 10mph step on gas.......does not go. after several seconds the car will slowly start moving. Very dangerous in traffic.
