I have a 2016 Honda Civic EX that I bought in Maryland. It only has 30,000 miles on it. Last month, I noticed that the A/C was not working properly. It only blows cold air on the passenger side and it blows warm air on the driver side. I thought I was covered under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, but I was informed today by the Honda dealership that I was about 6 months past the warranty since the car was serviced in November 2015. I did not use my A/C during the winter months so I did not know there was a problem until the summer and now I am past the warranty and Honda will not cover it. I was told that it would cost $127 to do an evacuation test to see if there was a leak. I went forward with the test and Honda told me that there is a leak and I need the entire A/C compressor unit to be replaced, which they quoted me $1,360. I should not have to spend $1,360 to fix the A/C compressor when my car is only 3 years old and has 30,000 miles on it. Honda should extend their warranty to fix this issue or there should be a recall. I would like to continue driving Honda Civics, but I am worried about getting another one if that means I have to fix the A/C in a couple of years.

Summer #2 of AC issues with my 2016 Civic. Last year, a valve was broken, so that had to be fixed and the AC was recharged. This summer, AC is again not working. Take it into the Honda dealership near my home, they can't find anything wrong with the AC. Their only suggestion is for me to pay $850 to recharge the system. I take the car back without the repair to get price quotes for the recharge. I call a few dealers and they state they are seeing a lot of 2016 Civics in for AC recharges because the system leaks Freon because of a design issue. I call Honda and the person I speak with states that Honda is aware that the 2016 Civic "is consuming Freon rapidly." I guess in Honda's mind, consuming and leaking are the same thing. I truly hate this car. I am furious that I have to pay about $500 to recharge Freon for Honda's inability to design an AC system that doesn't leak the new Freon.

This car is a 2016 but was sold new in 2017. I bought this car in November, 2018 with only about 12,000 miles on it. Now, in June 2019 (7 months later), the A/C is blowing hot air for about 30 minutes before it even starts to cool off. I have not taken it to the dealership yet.

Air conditioning stopped working last Fall (2018) when I was out of warranty. After looking online I decided to wait to take it in since it was out of warranty, it was cooling off, and maybe Honda would decide to recognize the problem. With Summer in full swing took it this week to dealer. Learned that the compressor will have to be replaced along with clutch for the compressor (?) and it is back ordered. Estimate is 1800. Waiting for a call when the part comes in. I don't buy Hondas to experience problems like this. My prior civic never had mechanical problems and my prior Accord which I finally sold with 250,000 miles on it never had mechanical problems. I expect better. I'm going to be calling American Honda Motors to have a chat with them - faulty AC and issue of not having parts.

Compressor is leaking and it is covered under warranty. BUT, the part is on back order with no release date. I have to just take the car back and live with it. Makes me feel like Honda does not care about their customers. If they did then they would keep this part that is failing often in stock to minimize inconvenience. Honda is not doing enough to get in front of this situation and is not taking ownership of this issue. Honda has to evolve from it's parts just in time concept to a more customer-centric model. We will be seeing a long time giant in the industry go down.

MY ac does not work and i am out of warranty. the problem is the gas type is r1234yf, no repair to it because it new and dealer asked for 2500 dollars to repair. i don't know what to do.

I ONLY BUY HONDA MY WHOLE LIFE AND I'M GETTING PISSED OFF AT THEM.
I JUST BOUGHT THIS HONDA CIVIC 2016 AND THE AC STOPPED WORKING.
THE CAR ONLY HAS 37,000KM ON IT WHICH IS PRETTY MUCH A NEW CAR, AND NOW I'M SWEATING IN MY CAR BECAUSE THE AC IS NOT WORKING. WHAT MAKES THINGS WORSE IS THE F*CKING HONDA SERVICES PEOPLE TOLD ME MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY BECAUSE THE CAR IS OVER 3 YEARS OLD.
I F*CKING TRADED IT FOR ANOTHER CAR.....
ITS TIME FOR HONDA TO HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS CAR

Dealer wanted $2200 to basically replace the Condenser and Compressor. No thanks. This seems to be a problem with these cars in general.. I have been a lifetime Honda owner and will now never purchase one again. I have never had this issue with any of the cars I have ever owned. How can the whole system on so many of these cars just up and die? Very disappointing.
- Michael P., Poughkeepsie, NY, US
AC vents made RPM dependent hissing noises from factory, but still blowing cold air. 1.5 years in, it started blowing hot air. Dealership "fixed" the problem by charging the freon, but the same noises was there. It blew cold air with noise for another year. Then, I though it would be the same problems because the symptoms were the same, but the dealership said it was a faulty condenser leaking, and the bill would be $1160. Turns out this problem is very widespread amongst new Civic owners. The AC system is faulty and needs to be fixed very often, and Honda does not want to pay for their defective design.

2016 Civic EX 2.0L sedan here and same problem as everyone else: AC Not Working
Bought the car Oct 2016, so I am out of warranty. The AC started getting weaker and within a week, it only blew hot air. Everyone knows that the condenser on this car is flawed and goes bad very easily. Honda gotta fix this or else I'm not buying Honda cars anymore. Its too bad, other than this the car is great and drives really nice.

I never expected to have problems like this on a 2 year old Honda? Really disappointed in Honda and how they have treated and dealt with me through the dealership. My Air conditioner is Broken and Honda dealership is saying my warranty wont cover as I'm over the KM. The worst part is they tried to get me in for the $400 assessment. So as I've been looking into this, I am seeing so many people complaining about the same problem, which makes Honda look so shady. Really disappointed in this company. I am reaching out to corporate in Canada as I am out of Oakville. But i am not holding out hope. Anyone feel like picketing some dealerships with signs in the Toronto area to bring attention to this? Any Lawyers know if we would be in liability for anything if we did this?

I have a 2016 Honda Civic EX-L (1.5L/Turbo). After 3 years, 64,000 miles later, cold air began blowing out of the passenger side only. After about 10 minutes of travel, the cold air would then also begin to come out of the driver side. I took my car into the local Honda Dealership who stated my air compressor was leaking and needed to be replaced ($1900 repair). It cost me $300 to diagnose the problem and then they wouldn't fill my AC back up with the refrigerant. So now I have no cold air. My brother in law had his AC go out after having his same model civic for one year. Since having encountered this problem, I have noticed several other people on various forums with this issue. I feel Honda needs to recall these compressors as there is clearly a problem with them. I understand if the compressor goes out after 8-10 years, but only 3 years later, some people less than a year. The other downfall to this is the refrigerant used is Y1234, which most AC repair shops don't have, convenient for Honda, go figure. Is there a way to directly complain to Honda? I don't feel I should have to pay $1900 (after already spending $300 to just diagnose the AC problem) to replace an AC compressor on a 3 year old car. VERY disappointed with Honda.

It really sucks to buy a brand new HONDA Civic, thinking wow, I've bought myself a great car with an excellent reputation. Then after only 2-1/2 years, boom, the A/C goes out and you find yourself having to fork over $1,000 to pay for it. GEEZ. I would never recommend a Honda to anyone after this experience. My mom and dad have NEVER owned a car where the A/C ever stopped working. WHAT A JOKE.

Took to the Honda dealership in hopes to have this documented and show I had it fixed correctly. Cost was 1,972.35. This seemed excessive to other quotes I've seen online. They did take $200 off after I asked. Worried the new compressor they put in will leak in three years as well.

I bought this car in Feb 2016. The Air Conditioning didn't even make it a year at about 12K miles stopped blowing enough cool air. I took it into my dealer the summer of 2016 while under warranty and they said it is working as designed. 2016 Civic's apparently don't come with A/C since this is just a fan function similar to a swamp cooler in my opinion. I started putting sun shades in the windows to keep the interior from heating up too much but it really didn't help much.
Then I took it to my dealer in the summer of 2017 and they said they said I needed a recharge and they did that for no charge even though I was over the 30K mile warranty. It was slightly better for a month or two but then went back to blowing very little cool air. The summer of 2018 I parked it in my garage to keep it from heating up the interior and the pathetic air conditioner was marginally better.
Now I've made it to the summer of 2019 and I just tell everyone I love the car but the A/C sucks. Its very embarrassing for me and you would think this would be embarrassing for Honda. I thought about tinting the windows but I'm not going to just put a band-aid on this lemon. I would like to keep it and get the A/C fixed but I see others have fixed it for thousands of dollars and it just goes bad again.
At this point I'm thinking about trading it in. I had Toyotas for many years and never had any major problems. My first Toyota in the 80's came with no A/C and this Civic reminds me of this first Toyota I had. So I switch to Honda 3 decades later and this happens. Looks like I should have stuck with Toyotas.
By the way I have reported this issue to Mission Hills Honda twice with no resolution. JD Power also sent me a survey about my vehicle and I hammered this problem home to them. I guess I'll lodge a complaint to Honda next. Honda is getting a bad reputation by ignoring this problem. I told my Mission Hills dealer who act like there is no problem that the A/C on this vehicle has a design flaw and that the A/C sucks and I let everyone know about it.

After purchasing this car used at 18,000 miles after two years, I noticed the A/C made a gurgling noise over the summer. It still appeared to work and was likely air bubbles in the AC refrigerant system. After a mild winter, the A/C did not work whatsoever and outputted hotter air than the ambient temperature (at 23,000 miles or so). I could not get this fixed for a few months, as the car was covered under the dealership's extended warranty while I was at school a few states over.
When I got it fixed, the dealership didn't initially carry the refrigerant to test for leaks (r-1234yf). After getting that sorted out, the leak wasn't found for the first few hours after a dyed recharge. After a week, the AC died again. Finally, the leak was found. The condenser needed a full replacement. The total cost was about $850 for the repair work, but I was lucky enough to get it covered by the extended warranty.
Overall, a major annoyance, but not the end of the world. Sad to see this problem at such a low mileage count, however. This appears to be an issue with the new A/C system in the 2016+ model Civics.

For a car this new with low mileage, I didn't expect the compressor to just die. The cost would have been $1,200 if I didn't have the extended warranty.

I bought this car new. In August 2016. In may 2017 I noticed the AC was not so cold. It blew hot air from the front vents and hot air on the sides. I took it in and was told the freon was empty and I would have to pay to replace it. I payed and left.

Fact: Purchased new in May 2016
- On Mon, June 17/19, started the AC for the first time this year. Found out it is not working.
- On Tue. June 18/19, started the AC again, did not work.
- On Wed. June 19/19, at 16:40ET, I phoned Family Honda(905-595-4500) in Brampton, Ontario about the AC issue and other issue. I wanted to book it for service on coming Saturday (June 22/19) since I work Monday Friday.
The lady on the phone told me that "since it is under warranty, the work should be booked during the week only. I was surprised about this type of service. So I booked for warranty service during the week, Thursday, June 20/19.
- On Thur. June 20/19 (39,000km, about 24,375 miles), I took my car in for the booked time after work. The guy at the service desk told me that "warranty is not valid, and for the dealership to run a diagnostic it will cost me $185CAD [+tax]. I told him that I was told by his colleague that it is under warranty and the km is only 39,000. He said I might have had a miscommunication. I told him that I did not have any miscommunication. I believe what she said. If Honda a employee behaves this way, how can we trust people? I came home without fixing the car.
Then, later in the evening I have received a message saying that "I have missed my scheduled appointment for my CIVIC...". I still believe, certain things should not be automated, customer service.
I am an owner of two Honda vehicles since 2008 and I have been telling all my family and friends that "I will be Honda forever", today Honda changed my mind.
Doing the right thing includes "being honest and apologize, and offer solution".
