The seats in this car are flat and generally very uncomfortable. On first glance and up to about an hour or two, they are totally fine, but driving any distance in this car will leave you with back pain, and a numb butt. So much so that I end up using the heated seats on the highest setting when I drive longer distances as a pseudo heating pad to help alleviate the uncomfort (even if it's 90 degrees outside with the AC blasting). This will be a big reason I don't lease another Civic, as I drive long distances several times a year.

1st car, out of a 6-8 cars driven in past, with seats discomfort. Had pain within minutes after driving off lot. Bought brand new for 1st time since older car kept breaking down. Got to a point where I kept waking up in lot of pain. Identified was lack of lumbar support which could cause pain but never inflated lumbar in many past cars (ES300, I-35, Camry XLE) including current CX-9. Tried 5 different pillows and although they decrease pain, still not completely gone. Never had back issues ever. These seats are designed really bad. No matter what I do (hard pillow, soft cushion, or an S curve pillow, pain doesn't completely go away. Have taken about 3 one week vacations since Sept. 2016 and no issues due to not driving the Civic. Pain returns as soon as I get back in the car. Otherwise, the machine is amazing! Here are all the pillows I've tried and after all of them failed only thing that works best is about a 6"x12" sponge pillow I found at a office supply store that I put vertically right in the middle. Have been trying to work it out desperately since I really like this car in every other manner. Honda has to do something about these ridiculous seats!

I bought this new Civic having owned Hondas since 1989. The seats are unbearably uncomfortable. I had a 2011 Accord with the same problem; STIFF SEATS. My butt goes numb and the back support is in te wrong place. I traded my 2013 Civic LX, which had very comfortable seats, for this, thinking "its a step up". The seat support is all at the butt area with no thigh support, meaning all my weight is on my butt. The foam used is extremely hard and unforgiving, like sitting on a basketball. Numbness starts in less than a 10 mile drive and continues after I get out of the car. Not happy with this.

Update from Nov 27, 2017: It took 10,000 miles of sitting before the seats became soft and pliable enough to be not uncomfortable. I still carry a soft pillow in the car . . .just in case. I checked with the dealer about getting a different seat but only got a blank stare. I guess "time in the saddle" softened up the not-so-pliable memory foam.

I previously owned a 1994 Honda Civic in 2000, and then went to a few different cars over the years and back to a 2012 Honda Civic LX - LOVED the car and mileage. Seats were comfortable too. I went car shopping for 2016 Honda Civic's because I love the new design. I took about a month to shop dealers and select the one I liked the most... I got a 2016 Honda Civic EX. LOVE the car HOWEVER..the amount of pain I have in my legs as I type this is insane! I drive one to one and a half hours to and then from work without traffic... The pain started behind my knee and shot down my leg and up my leg. It's insane how bad it is.... pretty upset with Honda that for $20K plus they cannot develop a seat that comfortable for long drives? Why bother with the great gas mileage Honda if the car sucks to sit in?! I started today using a pillow to sit on but now my head almost hits the roof... will keep trying to find the right comfortable position.

I really enjoy this car overall, but jeez is Honda awful with seat making. These seats are okay for short stints around town but anything longer than 30 minutes to an hour and your back and legs will be sore. There is no adjustable lumber support in a higher trim level Civics, but did not notice until after I bought it that it does not come with it. Most cars in this class come with it on the upper trim levels, but not with the Civic. The padding used in the seats are hard and has little give to contour the body. The back of the seat has too much lumbar support in the wrong place. I ended up finally seeing a chiropractor due to these seats and they are still awful after months of adjustments. I never had this problem with any of my previous cars, but all I want to do is get out of my lease now because of how badly they feel.

I was sooo excited about getting my first new car! I researched, did multiple test drives, and decided it was the best economical choice. But within one day of driving, I am in horrible back and hip pain! Even my butt falls asleep after 20 minutes! I tried adjusting the seat in every possible position. I have gone to the chiropractor twice this week. I even tried putting a pillow or blanket over seats. Nothing helped! It sucks because it is an amazing car but something needs to be done about these seats! I am hoping the accord is more comfortable because I am going to trade it out!m I never had this issue with my Chevy Lumina or Jeep Liberty...Very disappointed!
