My 2016 Honda Civic ex-T A/C recently started blowing hot air. I took the car to the dealership and they want nearly $500 for the diagnostic. Then they said the compressor needs to be replace and it'll cost over 2 grand. My car nearly has 60K miles and there's no way the compressor should have leakage. I took good care of my car. If I known Honda I'd problems with A/C I would have never bought Honda. This issue needs to be recall. It is not a pleasant ride to drive in the hot summer without A/C and my mother is old. This is not good.

Air conditioner in 2016 Civic failed in November of 2019. Honda covered the condenser but charge full rack to replace a connecting hose, $450. Now June of 2020 same issue where A/C is blowing hot air. Honda dealer tells me that the condenser and compressor need to replaced. Condenser is under extended warranty. Compressor was replaced at a cost of $1600. These parts are all faulty need to be covered. Car was purchased in 2018 as a cpo from Honda dealer. Car has under 63K miles.

A/C quit working at 30,000 miles one year out of warranty. Dealer diagnosed compressor bearing failure - not covered under extended warranty for defective condensers. Cost to repair: $2,000 + this is both dangerous due to inoperative defrost/defogging as well as risking passenger overheating in extreme weather - especially those of us who are seniors.

Ac was blowing out hot air. Dealer charged $280 to recharge ac with dye. After a month, they inspected the ac and found the evaporator and condenser leaking. Condenser is under the extended warranty but the evaporator is not, and they quoted me $1960 to replace it. It gets very hot in southern California and is a safety hazard when ac does not work properly.

Ac compressor leaking. Dealership admits ongoing issue. Estimate repair at $2300. Class action lawsuit in California already in motion for this issue. Honda only offering partial assistance with this repair. Admitted it's deign/manufacturing flaw. Honda needs to be compelled to recall 2016-2018 Civics to fix this flaw.

Tried to start car (in walmart parking lot) after shopping. Wouldn't start. Instead, all systems warning lights came on: Power steering, parking brake, brake failure, TPMS, traction control system, hill assist system, ABS system, etc. All these warnings kept cycling through on the dashboard when I tried to start car. Tow company came and jump started battery just to see if that would start car. It did! but warnings continued to cycle through all previously mentioned items while I drove car to mechanic. Did not turn car off till I got there for fear it would not start again.

2016 ac stopped working in September 2019. We purchased the vehicle in March 2019 with only 23K miles on it. We received a letter from Honda in November 2019 about a factory defect concerning the ac. We took it in and was charged over $400 for a leak test. No leak was found, they put in some dye and now today on May 12th, 2020 the ac is blowing warm air again. Now I'm doing research on the issue and have found many, many complaints of the same issue. I hope Honda steps up when take it in tomorrow.

Air compressor needed to be replaced at 26,000 miles and cost $1200 at the dealer. The A/C was blowing hot air. I live in Florida so this is unacceptable and not safe for children or elderly. I have had the car since day one and religiously maintain and take care of the vehicle. The man at the dealer said the condenser is under extended warranty only to find out that it was the compressor. A quick online search shows that 2016 Honda Civics have massive numbers of both condenser and compressor failures, leaking freon into the atmosphere. This needs to be a recall on the part of Honda.

Our Civic ran out of freon literally at 36,100 miles on our way to las vegas for a wedding where it was 110 degrees all weekend.ac stopped working!! took to dealer they did a diye test they told us couldn't find any leaks I had to pay for the freon to be filled back up again they gave me a form from american Honda to request my refund they denied it which I couldn't believe so all the freon went into the atmosphere that's an environmental hazard- 9 months later now today April 2020 the car ac went hot again took it to the dealer they said there was no freon now they said it leaked out again it even though they check for the leaks and they want to $3000 to fix it this needs to be recalled

problem #107

Mar 202019

Civic

  • 55,000 miles
The A/C compressor failed, shooting out ice particles into my face. Honda acknowledges the condenser was faulty from the factory and replaced that component, but refuses to acknowledge that the faulty condenser probably shortened/cause issues with the life of the compressor causing it to fail. Is cost prohibitive to repair and lack of air conditioning causes health and visibility issues with the front windshield in the winter.

Purchased car in July 2016, single owner, took the car into the dealership, capital Honda in olympia, wa on 4/10/2020 due to no cool air form ac system, informed that the compressor has oil and refrigerant leaking from compressor, the compressor is required to be replaced to fix. I have never had any service or maintenance performed on the ac system prior to visit on 4/10/2020. I elected to not have the estimated $1800 repair made at this time. I will scan and send in the repair estimate if required.
