Civic EX 2

  • CVT transmission
  • 77,000 miles

Recently I started experience a lag at accelerating and a clanking noise that sounds like its coming from underneath the glove box. The noise is only noticeable at the time of accelerating and while driving below 35mpg.

Civic EX-T 2 Door Coupe 1.5 Turbo

  • CVT transmission
  • 23,000 miles

I just purchased my two door Honda Civic TURBO May of 2019. I chose Honda due to multiple issues with my previous car, the horrible 9 speed Chrysler 200. Upon starting my car, intermittently it makes a fast 5 second grinding noise from the engine. It does it nearly every time I use my remote start but less often with a push button start. I've been to RUSSELL SMITH HONDA in SW Houston twice for this issue and have left the car there several days... they always state they could not get the issue to repeat and told me to bring it back if it happens again! Mind you, my car sat in the same spot for the five days that it was there! They CHECKED nothing! It's starting to do it every single time my car starts now, and it's really embarrassing & annoying! It's not the engine itself making the noise, it sounds like it's the starter that's overstarting. There is a service bulletin for this issue SERVICE BULLETIN 17-00.

If anyone have any suggestions please contact me. I have videos of my car doing this multiple times DAILY, but the dealer is not wanting to do anything about it!

Update from May 9, 2022: Honda fixed the issue with no problem. I had to show them the TSB and get them to get the issue to occur again, which they claim they could never get it to repeat after 3 times FINALLY. The issue is gone but I've heard it returning again, I hope Honda find a cure for the issue.
