Civic EX 2

  • CVT transmission
  • 74,000 miles

I purchased this 2016 Civic in January of 2016 and have had some major issues. In July of 2021 I began to smell a burning scent coming from the hood of the car but couldn't pin point where the smell was coming from. A day later while merging into the freeway (405 in Los Angeles, just imagine) the car suddenly began to decelerate when pressing on the accelerator, especially attempting to reach 50mph. I wasn't able to keep up with the flow of traffic and the RPM was going up and down rapidly. Luckily I was able to get off the freeway at the next exit. After coming to a stop at the off ramp and accelerating again it was very noticeable that there was something wrong with the card as it would not go above 25mph, and I was barely able to make it to a shopping center to park; the car didn't accelerate any longer as soon as I drove into the parking lot and I had to push it to a parking spot. I called my insurance to tow it to the nearest dealer since it was under extended warranty (so glad I bought it).

At the dealer I was told that the reason why the car lost power was because the transmission fluid had completely leaked. They found that the transmission gaskets had failed and had to be replaced. Luckily this was covered by my extended warranty.

Civic EX-L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 6,300 miles

Took to dealer but they said it was typical of a turbo. NOT

They said they would notify me if Honda issues a service bulletin

There is a definite flaw somewhere here.

The so called American Car of the Year is a complete rotten lemon.

Civic Touring 1.5L Turbo

  • CVT transmission
  • 1,000 miles

This problem is on top of the amplifier issue. The lurching at cruising speed is a joke and makes me feel that we made a mistake buying this car. Much cheaper options available that drive smoother.

Civic Touring 1.5L Turbo

  • CVT transmission

Vehicle hesitates at highway speeds as mentioned in the above complaint. Usually at 70plus highway speeds. Just purchased this car a week ago. Taking in to dealer to see what can be done.

Civic EX-T 1.8L

  • CVT transmission
  • 1,200 miles

The car has a constant hesitation at speeds over 50. Trying to decide if its worth taking into the dealership as I've read they can not do anything for it.

Civic Touring

  • CVT transmission
  • 1,900 miles

The vehicle has a noticeable skip/pause/hesitation that creates a real slight jerking movement in the car that when driving above 70mph. It is noticeable when holding a constant speed or slowly accelerating. It'll drive smooth then every so often, I feel the car hesitate. This has been going on since December.........I finally called the dealership and made an appointment to take it in, I asked the service center if they had any other reports of this occurring when I called it in and he said no.

I dropped the car off and they called me later that afternoon and told me they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle and the service manager did drive it and also felt the car hesitate but that is just because of the CRV type of transmission and that they had seen other cars in there for the same problem...(not to sure of this since I was told no when I dropped it off). Also no warning lights or sensors were detecting any issues.

They did not charge me anything and told me they would make a note of it in the system that it was seen for this issue.

With Honda spending so much time and money on redesigning the Civic, it seems odd that they would have this type of performance issue that is noticeable and just let it go......

Update from Mar 8, 2016: I am still having this issue and plan on talking to the service department when I take it in to the dealership for its oil change. I have received a few comments from other owners who are having this same issue and are also looking for any solutions to this issue. Will update again in after I take it in in a few weeks.
