rear view mirror casing “exploded” rear view mirror casing “exploded”

My passenger side rear view mirror made an explosion sound and casing blew off. It was on a smooth residential landscaped road at a speed of 5 mph approaching a stop sign. Nothing hit it. The sound was explosive. No car in front, no loose pavement or gravel anywhere. Honda is claiming the damage came from the outside. No way. They won’t cover under warranty.

The sound was similar to a gunshot or 45 mph crash. The casing exploded into a driveway 10ft behind me. At the speed I was going, there is absolutely no way anything hit it. Once I realized what made that sound, I walked back and picked up the casing. Not a scratch on the casing, no feathers, no deer carcass, no boulders (or pebbles), no kids outside, Honda (Cary NC and Honda corporate) refuse to acknowledge the issue. Nothing outside would have caused this. If it was on a busy road or interstate I would take it up with insurance. But, I refuse to pay the deductible for something spontaneous.

Feeling gaslit. Extremely disappointed with Honda Service.
