Checked oil level before taking vehicle in for routine maintenance and the oil was very high on the dipstick. It also smelled like fuel. This is consistent with the older models that had oil dilution problems. Explained the problem to the tech and they agreed the oil smelled like fuel. The Honda tech did some diagnostics and said that 2 of the fuel injectors were stuck open. 3 days later they had changed all 4 injectors under warranty. I noticed an immediate jump in performance and my average MPG went up to 42 with my normal driving. That lasted about 1000 miles and after about 4000 miles I noticed the MPG had gone back down to (38) what it was when the oil level was above normal. Checked the oil and it was above the metal thing at end of the dipstick. That's way above normal! Also there is a strong gas smell.
Here I am back at the Honda Service Center and they are telling me to do an oil change and come back in every 1000 miles to have it checked. I live 50 miles away and this is a major inconvenience. They just did some testing and everything has checked out. They said the oil level was high but not that high and I said because it was hot from the drive. They then said it should be checked while hot and that is what Honda tells them to do. From an engineering and service standpoint that might be the dumbest thing I've heard of. How are you going to control consistency when checking the oil like that? Why not just change the dipstick to read correct while cold? Sounds like a convenient way for Honda to sneak there way out of many oil dilution situations. I asked if it was in the manual and the Honda Senior Manager said no... Honda is shady, don't buy their vehicles!
