My 2003 Civic Hybrid has had shifting problems since 10k miles; I have taken it to the dealer several times & they always say there's nothing wrong. When I start the car and shift from park to drive, it hesitates as long as 5-8 seconds before shifting into gear. It also revs and/or bucks sometimes when I am driving at steady speeds on the highway. Since the dealer has told me several times that there is nothing wrong with my car, I thought nothing of it. I became concerned when it started happening when I shift into reverse. Two days ago I backed out of my driveway and the car hesitated; I thought of how scary this could be on a busy road, etc. and of the danger I could be exposing myself and my family to. When I googled Honda Civic 2003 Hybrid Transmission Problems, I realized I am not the only one with these problems. I read several accounts (just on Edmunds) of owners with similar problems - there were over 230,000 hits!!! Many reported complete transmission failure to the tune of $4000 and even a near fatal accident. One owner suggested calling the American Honda # and reporing the problem at 800-999-1009, which I did today. I was told that until enough people call in and report the same or similar problems that Honda won't do anything about it... SO, PLEASE, if you are having either or both of these transmission problems, PLEASE CALL!!! If enough people report the problem, they will eventually do something about it!!!

CAR HESITATES UPON ACCELERATION, LIKE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. OCCASIONALLY CAUSING LURCHING OR BUCKING. HONDA HAS TECH BULLETIN OUT ABOUT THIS, HAS REFORMULATED THEIR CVT TRANNY FLUID, AND REDESIGNED THE START CLUTCH IN THE TRANNY TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT, BUT DEALERSHIPS SEEM IGNORANT ABOUT THIS OR HESITANT TO ADMIT ISSUE EXISTS AND WILL OFTEN WANT $$$ TO INVESTIGATE AND CORRECT.
