Problem with the car was still the same, sudden battery discharge and dangerous driving due to loss of power. This was all reported to various government agencies concerned with car safety, including the BBB but Honda still refused to act. Dealer offered a very low price to buy car back. Car could not be sold with a known defect, and therefore lost its value.

Honda is trying to avoid replacing these bad batteries by masking the real problem behind a software change. I have a 2006 Honda Hybrid, +100K My IMA (integrated motor assist) light came on with no motor assist functionality. I contacted the dealer. They said bring it in. They said they needed to put a software upgrade on. My IMA light went off. I drove the car home. Unusual things were happening with my charging and horsepower. The following morning going to work, I pulled up to the first light. Auto-stop engaged, I noticed I had 3/4 charged notches (almost fully charged). Suddenly, it came out of auto-stop. The light changed and when I pressed on the gas, it dropped to 2 charged notches (almost completely discharged) and I had no IMA. I continued to have no IMA. Then while I was driving, it started "displaying" charging without braking!. I too it back to the dealer and they said everything is as the new software is designed.
I believe the battery is defective and Honda is not taking responsibility and masking the problem with a software change.

Just looking for solutions. This has happened at unexpected times. The power just drops out. The accelerator pedal has no effect. Lasts just seconds. A couple of times the battery charge light showed the battery with a low charge. Recently I was driving up a 7 mile dirt road going about 15 to 25 miles per hour. After about 6 miles it happened 3 times in a row over a couple of minutes. The battery charge indicator showed the battery charged about 60%.

I was driving on freeway 45 of Texas from my parents' home to my apartment. Suddenly, my dashboard light flickered. Within 15 seconds, every single light on the dashboard turned on, including the power steering!!!! My steering wheel became heavy, the response of the vehicle was abnormal and I knew it. I turned off the radio and the air conditioning to conserve energy. I turned on my emergency light and exited the closest freeway exit. The car steering wheel became even heavier at lower speed when I was driving on the feeder! I used all my strength to pull over to a parking lot!!!! Luckily that I was a strong person and could handle the lost power steering wheel, so no accident happened! The Honda Hybrid could not start after it lost power completely! Later I called my brother to get the truck and towed the car home. I thought that I had a bad 12V battery. I bought a new one to replace. The same thing happened 3 weeks later!!!! I was terrified with that Honda Hybrid 2006 and parked it at my Parents' home since then!!!!! Honda does not stand behind their product, otherwise they would extend the battery warranty for at least 15yr/150000!!!! I bought a used 2004 Toyota Prius to compare the reliability!!!! The 2004 Prius still running strong with the original battery! And the mileage is 189kmiles! Honda, fix your Honda hybrid 2nd generation problems!!!! I bet your 2nd gen Honda Civic hybrid caused a lot of deaths and injuries!!!!!!
