Clarity Plug-In Hybrid

  • CVT transmission
  • 2,000 miles

This was the second time in two months that my Clarity had very low tire pressure in one tires and the TPMS warning light did not come on. The dealership checked the TPMS system and they do not see a problem with it.

Update from Feb 27, 2019: I have found that there are two types of TPMS, direct and indirect. Direct uses a sensor in each tire to measure the air pressure and reports it to the computer and the computer turns on the low tire pressure light if one of the tires is low. I was told by the technician at my local Honda dealer that Honda uses a indirect system. Indirect systems use the ABS to sense that one tire is rotating at a different rate then the other tires and reports this to the computer. If this continues to occur for a period of 20 miles or more according to my local Honda dealership, then the computer turns on the low tire pressure light. In my opinion it would seem that the direct TPMS would be more accurate.
