About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Vehicle was fine when new. After approximately 45,000 miles the vehicle began stalling after a cold start up. Vehicle would start fine but then stall after a stop as at an intersection. This would occur on any cold engine start-up. The normal pattern would be you would come to a stop at an intersection and the engine would be idling fine. However, when you stepped on the accelerator and the vehicle would just start to move into the intersection and the engine would stall leaving you dangerously stranded in traffic. After the stall the engine would restart. This has not resulted in an accident yet but there have been some close calls. Car seems dangerous to drive in traffic until it is warmed up. No check engine light ever occurred. Problem was reported to a Honda dealer who told us "Fits have no drivablity problems." Dealer service people drove car, but only when it was "warmed up" and could not find a problem. As there were no trouble codes they said there was no problem. Stalling continues and worsens with time. I have called american Honda to request help with this but it is not resolved. I have read of many other owners of 2007 Fits having the exact same issue but few seem to know what to do to fix it.

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Fit sport. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle lost power, sputtered, hesitated, and performed as if a cylinder was misfiring. When the rpms exceed 3,000, the contact must slow the vehicle down so that it will drive normally. The vehicle has been at the dealer for one day. They performed a diagnostic, but found no failures. The vehicle is in the same condition and the contact does not feel safe driving. In addition, the coil packs need to be repaired, which he assumed to be the cause of the failure. The spark plus have already been replaced. The coil packs are on backorder and no one has the parts available. The hesitation of the vehicle has been occurring for approximately one year. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 112,000.

At 6:00 pm last Friday, I drove my 2007 Honda Fit over a low-lying parking barrier left out in the middle of a parking lot. Upon hitting the barrier, my engine rpms went out of control and the car would not stop in spite of the fact that I had my foot jammed on the brake. To avoid crashing head on into a concrete wall, I turned and hit a parked car. My own car did not stop until it was high-sided on another, properly placed, parking barrier. The car has been towed and I am not aware if the defect has been identified or repaired.
