Door Ajar sensor started chiming the very DAY I drove away from the dealer when I picked up my NEW 2015 FIT. I heard it chiming so stopped and checked all doors & hatch. They were shut. Went back to dealer but because it was a Saturday there was no service available. They told me to bring it back on Monday. I returned on Monday and first thing the Service Tech did was Open/SLAM those doors & hatch until the car literally jarred. ( I didn't think THAT was very good for it since it's a lightweight body to begin with) Then I was told.....we will have to take a closer look so we need to keep your car... I asked for a SERVICE LOANER CAR but they said there weren't any ( mind you, this was day 3 after I acquired this car)...their shuttle van brought me home where I was stuck for 5 hours until they called to say it's fixed. They said they found the door " strike plate" was off position so it didn't close correctly. (Even if you slammed it apparently... That doesn't make sense to me) So they re- positioned it and that should stop the chiming.
Then with 716 miles on my car and after being forced to drive for about an hour this past Saturday night ( so No Dealer available for 2 days) with the " door ajar" sensor chiming and the locks opening / closing while I was driving ( overhead lights kept going on/ off too but I think that was all tied together). I took car BACK to dealer on Monday. But I had to borrow my old 1996 Subaru back from the person I just gave it to so I had something to drive while they attempted to fix it yet again.
Not only was this extremely annoying ( actually, close to torture listening to that ding-ding-ding for an hour straight) but once the LOCKS and overhead light started to become involved...I was thinking the next thing could be the IGNITION....since the locks & overhead light come on together when you turn the car off. I really was expecting that it might just CUT OUT at 60 mph on a 4 lane highway. At least that didn't happen ( this time)
I've called HONDA America to report this as a defective car..I believe it's a very early production from their new Factory in Mexico ( need I say more) and it's a screw up..."Lemon" or whatever.. I've already had it in twice before for the door warning that kept coming on...dealer said it was " strike plate" out of alignment on door so it wasn't meeting up properly so they fiddled with it 2x before this incident. This time the door chime just stayed on...and the other two things started happening. I seriously worried that my electronic ignition was going to quit while I was driving on a 4 Lane highway.
Told HONDA Rep. I want either 1) to get OUT of my Lease ( have only made 2 payments) OR 2) Give me a DIFFERENT car.
Dealer told me it's " fixed" again but all they did was remove the strike plate for 3rd time and tried to put it back. *He said it's partly because the armrest is so close to the sensor that it doesn't take much pressure to trigger it. And he's never seen ANY HONDA with these problems ...especially a NEW ONE. He said it's very likely it's going to do it again but he can't say how long it might be...it may be due to BAD DESIGN or faulty electronics elsewhere that they couldn't determine.
I have not heard back from the HONDA REP but they are supposed to contact me tomorrow. I believe I have a case under the NY Lemon Law , too. But this is REALLY bad PR for them and their new MEXICAN factory IF they don't do the right thing by me because I WILL go public with my story. I've had Hondas before and they were good. What is going on?
My point here is when you take these incidents with the door sensor & locks ADDED to about 10 days ago when I had 5 WARNING LIGHTS showing up on my dashboard ( some were SERIOUS, too :AWD , Power Steering,) And had to leave this car at the shop for 2 days until they figured out it was a " faulty sensor in the wheel" They never did give me specifics...WHAT sensor in the wheel would cause ALL 5 lights to come on at once? Scary? YES....at least I was in town and close to home.
Do I feel confident that my new 2015 HONDA Fit is Reliable? NO Do I dare drive it any distance away? NO....my 1996 Subaru is turning out to be better !
Should Honda settle up with me and do the right thing by either 1) Letting me out of my lease ...I've only made 2 payments OR 2). Give me a Different car ?
I had a 2009 CIVIC and it was a decent car aside from that TPS ( tire pressure sensor) going off more that it should have ( that ended up being a defective sensor) but if these new FITS they are making in their new factory in Mexico are like this one I have. Then their reputation is headed for the gutter.
If they don't do the right thing by TAKING THIS CAR BACK....I am going to spread my story because it certainly should be of interest to those who watch the auto industry.
