Honda should have a recall on their VTC acuators and replace them for free. This is a well known, well documented defect on many of their engines. Nothing new about it and it should not exist.

Sounded like something was hitting the radiator fan on cold startup, except I couldn't find damage on the fan. It started happening occasionally and was hard to replicate. After 6 months, it was happening every time the car was left off for more than 8 hours. If left untouched, more damage could occur and the parts cost would increase. The DIY route basically requires taking the engine out of the car. The shop inspected my timing chain and guides and they were fine but could have been an added cost. Ask for PCV valve replacement while in there.
