About a month and a half after purchasing this vehicle I took my family (Wife and Kids) on a weekend trip. It was about an 8-hour drive there and 8 hours back. About 3 hours into the trip my left leg started aching where it meets the seat cushion. I made mention of it to my Wife and decided to push on with our journey. About 20 minutes later the pain had radiated into my left hip, and lower back. Luckily I had a pillow in the car that was brought for the kids to lean on as they usually nap on these long trips.
I spent the rest of my vacation and 8-hour ride back home constantly adjusting this pillow to remain remotely comfortable in this seat. I went back and forth with the dealer on what the cause could be. They pulled the seat out of the vehicle and tore it down inspecting it to "find no issues" other than something moved out of place. Supposedly a bar that holds the hog rings that fasten to the seat cover to hold it in place had moved and I was sitting directly on it.
After taking the car back the problem still existed. It was at this time that I put together that since I had the car I always felt like I was falling off the left side of the seat towards the driver's door. Especially in a right turn. After more back and forth with the dealer, they came to the conclusion that all the other HR-V's on the lot had seats that felt the same as the one that I had. So they went out of their way to put me in another HR-V of the same submodel just a year newer to test for a weekend. We planned this on a weekend where my Wife and I were going out of town so I could thoroughly test the vehicle. Given that my car had 1000 miles on it at the time of the incident, and the trip where the issue occurred was 8 hours opposed to the 4 hour trip we were taking this time I did not expect the issue to be as developed in this test vehicle as it was in mine. Of course, this was an accurate assumption, but the issue was present by the end of the trip in the tester.
At this point, both service managers were involved as well as their DPSM (District Parts and Service Manager I think). We came to the conclusion that this was a bigger issue that with just my vehicle and it would need to go to corporate. The Service Manager advised that he would take the findings to the DPSM and they would get in contact with Corporate and they get back with me. I waited 3 weeks and heard nothing. After reaching out to find out that the hold up was. I was told that It was now up to me to get in contact with Corporate and push this forward. Which was not what I was told last, but ok. So I called corporate and started a claim, and was told that it would be going to a case manager for review. The next day the same guy that took my issue called and told me that they could not take the claim because there was not work order with an estimate for repair. My dealer would not give me this information due to the outcome that it was a wider issue that a new seat would not fix. It is likely a design issue. So here I am not with a vehicle I can not sit in for any length and a dealer, and corporate office that tells they need me to get something from the other that they can not provide, before we can proceed. I have been dealing with this since August. This isn't even all of my issues with this car. Just the most inconvenient at this time.
At this point, I just want to give the car back and move on with my life but do not have that option. this is draining way too much time out of my life. I bought a new car to not have to worry about vehicle issues. So I am currently driving around with a pillow in my car in case I need to put it back under my rump when the pain sets in. I can't drive with it all the time because of the position that the pillow puts me in misaligns my upper back with the seat and causes other issues.
It was mentioned once at the dealer that this was a 1,800.00$ seat. WHAT!?!?!?! 1,800.00$ you gotta be kidding me. 1,800.00 and they can't get it right? I have had far cheaper and better recliners that lasted much longer that this. What a joke!
