HR-V LX AWD 1.5L

  • CVT transmission

Aug 2025 - 2022 HRV at 80,000 miles (Austin, TX) - Loud noise in engine begins and becomes more noticeable when accelerating. Others in the car asked about the loud noise. I finally took it to the dealership Oct. 13. I showed them the video I recorded hood up showing/recording engine noise. Inspection showed Belt Tensioner needed replacing. Ordered part $173 (Dallas, TX)

So I returned next day - Drive Belt Tensioner was replaced and noise gone HOWEVER, the 'Inspection' failed to see the numerous cracks in the Serpentine belt, so my personal mechanic pointed this out to me 3 days later, so I returned to say I will pay for the belt, but NOT FOR THE LABOR which was $550 for the Belt Tensioner labor. They agreed this was their dealership ERROR on inspection and replaced Serpentine Belt for no cost-parts/labor no cost.

In researching, most Timing Belts are replaced at 60,000 to 100,000, so this Serpentine Belt was normal maintenance, but not the Belt Tensioner, which has an Extended Warranty for HRV years 2016-2020 up to 7 yrs or 150,000 miles. Bummer for me in the 2022 HRV, which the average mileage for a 3 yr use is 36,000 to 45,000, but I use this for a business which explains the premature failure. So most likely in the next few years as other 2022 owners obtain this higher mileage and belt tensioner failure, Honda SHOULD add 2021 and 2022 to this Extended Warranty-in my opinion.
