The Back window blew up and dispersed glass at least 5 ft into my driveway while I was standing behind it. It was very scary and frightening. Fortunately, I did not get hit with any debris. The windows continued to make a crackling sound for several minutes. I had just got a safety recall a few days before and was planning on taking it in but the notification should have been much sooner and marked urgent, for example: Do not drive your car, it may blow up. When I researched, I can see that the issue was known as early as Jan 2024 and I was just notified in September 2024. Also, Honda is not offering loners for the fix even though we have to wait for the window to come in and have no transportation. They should be very accommodating considering the situation - people could really get hurt.

After a 20 minute drive back to house, a smell of something burning became present inside the car. Rolled windows down to let smoke filled cabin escape. Upon arrival inside the garage and after parking car. As I was exiting car, the rear window exploded with my daughter a few feet from back of car. It was loud and recorded on video. Back of window was hot to touch. Honda dealer was quick to blame an impact from a foreign object, along with outside smell of fire entering the cabin while driving to explain away the damages. Also, the window being hot was blamed on a hot sun. Reached out to Honda, and I put in complaint. 3 days later, Honda dealer has been approved to fix problem. No warning lights. Just a strong smell of an electrical short that needs to be found. Glass was everywhere.

We have since become aware that Honda is aware of the exploding rear window phenomenon caused by the heating coil concentration in one area, creating a hot spot and weakening the glass. My 2023 Honda HR-V is now at the dealership where we purchased it for repair and was told today that Honda will cover the cost. However, the rear window for our vehicle is on back order (I wonder why). There was no warning just a loud instantaneous explosion and glass flying.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that the alarm had sounded without incident and the contact disabled the alarm. The contact stated that hours later, the contact attempted to start the vehicle with several messages displayed on the instrument panel. After several failed attempts, the contact attempted to jumpstart the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer where the contact was later informed that rodents had chewed on the wiring harnesses due to the wiring harnesses being made with soy-based, eco-friendly materials. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty and that the repair would be performed out-of-pocket. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

Back in mid January, there was a winter storm in our area that hit overnight. Mild snow, but predominantly ice. Heading into work the next morning, I needed to use my defroster (both front and rear) to allow visibility with my windshields. I was able the clear the ice off my window and arrived safely to work. 8 hours later I headed home and again there was still some ice on my rear-windshield which prompted the use of my rear defroster. On my way home (less than 15mins from work) I did not notice any changes in visibility. Once I arrived home, I discovered that my entire rear-windshield was uniformly shattered, still intact, but shattered. Seems as though my window shattered sometime during the work day. The next day I went to my dealership as my car is still under warranty and had only been purchased less than 15 months prior. The service advisor informed me there was nothing they could do for me. Informed them of my research, as I was not the only 2023 Honda HR-V with this issue and stated that this was something that needed to be addressed by them or American Honda. At the start of February I got a response from the service advisor that my case was approved at the district level, but there were no windows available. Unrelated to the window, I was in a separate accident which prompted removal of my broken window to fix the body. The repairs were completed within two weeks and was released with crash-wrap hoping I could immediately transfer it over to Honda, but there still was no window available. I reached out to American Honda hoping for some assistance and still have no results. While i now get weekly updates on status, there is no guarantee of product delivery. It is now end of April, I have been without a window since end of February (broken window since mid-January). While my case is classified as critical, I still have no answers as to when I can/will have a window.

The steering wheel will automatically jerk to the left and right while driving, particularly in cold weather. I had at first thought this was the lane assist, however I turned it off and the it was still happening. While driving on the highway it-??s as if the steering wheel is making small motions left and right on its own as I am trying to keep a straight path on the road. It has not put me at any direct safety risks but it is definitely a nuisance and makes the driving experience very annoying. I have not yet taken it to a dealership to be duplicated or inspected, however I have read that there have been multiple reports made to NHTSA about this same issue. There were no warning lamps or messages associated with this issue.

" I purchased a brand new 2023 Honda HRV from your facility and I'm already having problems with it. My issue is that anytime I use the rear defroster, after it cools, it causes the Paneling and Side view mirrors to brutally crack and warp. Online I saw others have the same exact issue. It starts with metal warping, every time, and ends in the back window being blown out. I don't understand why there's not a recall for this apparent issue. I went on the internet and saw that many others had the exact same issue, but no recall was set into play. This has been an ongoing issue for Honda since 2019 in their HRV line; or at least, this is where the complaints began. I recently got a recall in the mail, stating something about a seatbelt, but not for the more important Defroster issue. What can or should I do about this?" This was an email I sent to a Honda Customer service agent at the dealership I bought it from, after also contacting Customer Service by phone. To date, there have been ZERO attempts to resolve my concerns. I have not received any phone calls or emails back to even let me know they cared. Currently, I refuse to use my rear defroster on this model EVER, for fear that my rear window will explode while driving.

I used remote start to start my 2023 HR-V SPORT, and walked outside about 5 minutes later to find the rear windshield completely shattered. I thought something may have hit the glass, but I was backed into my driveway close to the garage door, and it was mid-morning so I didn't suspect a break-in attempt, as there was absolutely nothing in the car to steal. After doing some research online, I found all the reports of the Rear Defrost malfunction being reported. I have been setting the A/C to preheat the vehicle in the mornings due to the recent cold snap, so I double checked my settings, and they were indeed set the same, with the Rear Defrost set ON. I called my local Honda Service Dept. today and the person on the phone acted surprised, and claimed to have never heard of this issue. I am still waiting on a call back from the actual Service Department to take the car in. We are currently now without transportation, and no answers from Honda.

The steering is sticking and jerky without the lane assist, especially when it's cold out. Instead of normal smooth steering correction while driving, it builds up pressure while trying to correct, then it feels like a slip, then a jerk. It makes me feel very unsafe and I always now have to have a firm grip on the wheel

The back windscreen of my 2023 Honda HRV spontaneously exploded causing an 8-inch diameter hole on the left side of the glass (when looking at it from the back). The vehicle was parked with engine off and was being filled with gasoline at a gas station. When the back hatch was opened to remove a bag (covered in broken glass) most of the remaining windscreen fell in to the back of the vehicle when the hatch was shut. The vehicle was not involved in an accident/collision and was not hit by any object. The rear window heater had been turned on in the previous minutes. Honda do not have a recall for this issue but they have issued a dealer communication and are investigating the general issue. This does seem to be a common issue according to Honda forums.

On July 22, 2023, I was pulling out of a parking spot when the back window/windshield exploded without cause. There were no objects nearby or any other cause for the problem. The only other possible cause would've been the pneumatics failing to protect the glass or the rear defrost heating the glass until it exploded. I took the car to the dealership (Coggin Honda Orlando, 11051 S Orange Blossom Trl, Orlando, FL 32837) and they refused to fix it under the warranty of the vehicle, which at the time was just over 10K miles and less than 6 months of ownership. A quick google search shows at least dozens of reports of the same issue happening to other owners. This is very dangerous because it can injure a backseat passenger. I was forced to pay for the repair with my Insurance for something that Honda should acknowledge as a problem and provide a recall.

On October 19 I was on my way to work and noticed my back window was shattered. I wasn-??t sure if it was intentional so I called the police. The officer arrived and looked at the vehicle he observed and found no signs of a break in or that the window had been intentionally bashed in. I called my insurance and they they sent someone to replace the window since I did have glass coverage. I looked on Google to see if there were any faulty issues with the windows and it pulled up several other Honda HRV 2023 models were having the same problem. I immediately contacted the dealer and sent them an email and called but no response

Outside temperature in the 70s had recently just rained and rear window was foggy. I turned on the rear defogger after about two minutes or so started smelling something burning thought it was car exhaust. I parked the car and the rear window shattered. There was a hole the size of a baseball, and when I went out to look, everything fell into the trunk area, Honda claims this is not a warranty issue and it-??s not covered

I had my car parked at my place of work and the rear windsheld exploded and shattered by itself. The car was not vandalized, touched by an object/being, or had an attempt break in. This all happened after use of the rear windshield defrost component. Luckily I was not driving or in the car when this happened. I brought the car to my nearest dealership and informed them on what happened. The vehicle was inspected by the dealership and also, the police. All confirmed that it was not done by an object/being. There were no warnings or messages that were brought to my attention about this happening or could happen. Now it has to get replaced!
