I purchased a 96 Odyssey in 98 with 40k miles. Found out when rotating tires at Costco SF Honda gave me a sidewall repair on one tire. I had them give me four new tires but also realized they had tried to scam me. After the first hundred miles of driving, my oil was disappearing. This happened during the first 70,000 or within three years of which I had a warranty ...I bought it certified used. Honda sent me for oil consumption tests, and though I pointed out repeatedly the amount of oil being used was not normal they kept saying it was normal. NOW SIXTEEN YEARS LATER I AM READING HOW HONDA KNEW THEY WERE SCAMMING US.
I am pissed off beyond means. I added oil to my vehicle for months, years...and I maintained that frigging Odyssey at every junction with the 70 and 90,000 they recommended. Till the thing started running on three cylinders, probably before 2007, but that's what my 2007 mechanic told me ("I don't know how you're driving this thing, but keep doing it till it dies," he said).... and then in 2012 the engine died at 175,000.
This was sixteen years ago and I will get my VIN number if I can stick it to Honda, cause they owe me, those creeps. I have my loan papers which has the VIN, just not at this very second, am I going through my archives. I remember bringing the Honda for an oil consumption test to the "recommended Honda repair facility" in San Mateo or San Bruno CA.. Also brought it into a "recommended Honda repair facility" in NYC ... and even back to the dealer in SF at SF Honda on Van Ness. I wrote to Honda about it too, and I put up a BIG STINK and they wrote me a letter saying it's NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION.
So that class action gave eight extended years on the warranty, huh? That would have brought me to eleven years warranty or 2009. It's not like I followed Honda Crap on the news or anything. I am now looking for a new used vehicle and Honda Odyssey is still being yapped about, so as I yapped back about the oil crap and mine dying an early death, ....I find that Honda, as I've stated all along, SCREWED THE HELL OUT OF ME AND MILLIONS OF OTHER HONDA OWNERS. And I'm pissed finding out about this after the thing departed on me three years ago. FU Honda.
