Here I go again, another transmission problem. So now trying to sell this vehicle and trying not to buy another lemon. I think 4 transmissions in 12 years is a bit excessive!

I know the vehicle was about 12 years old but it was always maintained and had normal driving conditions. The transmission should not fail like it did. Again, Honda's quality has noticeably slipped since 2000. I will look at other vehicles next time.

The transmission shifting is almost giving me whiplash. Even soft pedal'g it (not trying to accelerate quickly) it shifts very hard. One trustworthy mechanic said his diagnostics identified it as the Torque Converter & will probably mean a new transmission. He suggested I bring it to a Honda dealer (taking $$ out of his pocket, very good guy!) and see if they could do anything for me on replacing it for free or a portion of the bill. The dealer said since it was a Canadian Honda (I bought it in the US as a used vehicle) that they would certainly not be able to do anything for me - Canadian & US warranties were very different. I have 111,500 miles on the Odyssey, so a warranty is probably out of the question, but I was hoping there had been some recalls on this problem especially since it will probably run around $4,000 for the transmission replacement. I don't have that kind of money and desperately need help! I need a HERO!

on @ 74700 miles took car to dealer was told it was the catalytic converter and they could fix it in two weeks. But since i was on vacation i did not have the time. When i took it to the dealer after i got home they told me i was over the recall mileage and would have to pay full price for the repair. Took to local business for repair and light went out for a while. Less than 5000 miles later check engine light came on and the dealership blamed the outside shop for their repair work and said they would have to repair the catalytic converter. Since it was still under warranty from the the repair shop i took it back but was told that was not the problem. I was never told from the dealership about a transmission problem and it was leaking when i took it in. Now the transmission is totally shot and i am on the hook for the whole amount since it is now over 140000 miles.

Close your eyes an image backing out of your driveway with a van full of children. You put the minivan in drive and try to go down the road. You start out slowly and work up to the speed limit as you arrive at 20 mph your minivan kinda hesitates to go to the next gear you easy off of the gas pedal and the minivan changes gears as it should. You think okay no big deal as you pull to a complete stop at the stop sign. You wait for traffic to clear before you pull out on the highway and then to your absolute horror the minivan does NOT want to change gears as you pull out. You only have four precious children on board your minivan. You also have a vehicle coming from the left and a vehicle coming from the right and guess what you are in the DAMN middle. So far a great picture right but wait it only gets better. As you come to a red light and wait patiently for the light to turn GREEN you push the gas pedal and start down the highway and the damn minivan does NOT want to change gears. Now you have a line of cars behind you and you can't get down the damn road. What the hell are you suppose to do if your minivan does not want to go? The simple answer would be to take your foot off of the gas pedal and let the minivan change gears on its own. Right? Wrong. You take your foot off of the gas pedal and wait to see what happens. You try pushing the gas pedal again to see if the gear has changed and to your complete surprise it has not changed gears at all. It seems to be stuck and you still have a complete line of traffic behind and they are slowly put surely going around you as you wait to get off the highway. As you find a place to pull over and call someone for help your minivan decides that it wants to change gears as you go over a couple of speed bumps. But then you come to a complete stop in which your minivans feels like it is still waiting to stop and wait for your turn to pull back out on the highway thinking okay I can take two of my children to school, yeah right. As you pull out onto the highway your DAMN minivan starts acting up again.
You take your minivan to a mechanic and he tells you that your transmission is the problem. You say okay how much will it cost to fix it? He answer why don't we try flushing the transmission out first and that round around $120.00. Okay sure no problem if you have $120.00 to share. Well guess what I don't have that $120.00 the mechanic says okay no problem for you I will only charge you $90.00. Well that is a little better but guess what I don't have $90.00 either to have the DAMN thing flushed. But hey what the hell I can borrow from family members and friends to have the transmission flushed. Then you get a second opinion and they tell you that you have a major problem on your hands. Okay second mechanic tell me the goods news. Well I did some research on the computer and their is a recall for your minivan. Are you kidding me I ask. He politely tells me no and hear is the number to call for the recall. Okay no big deal. Yeah right I call the 1-800 number and they tell me that the recall is for an extended warranty on my transmission. Yeah right no thanks.
I go back to the second mechanic and tell him about this supposedly recall and he says what the HELL. Exactly what I was thinking. He says okay let me look some more on the computer. He then finds out that their is a recall but its voluntary and that I will need to spend some money for a temporary fix on my transmission. He tells me it would be a good idea to flush the transmission and to plan to have either the transmission replaced or the engine replaced. Okay no big deal right? Wrong again he tells me I'm looking to spend money to replace something should be simple. He says nope it will cost from about $300.00 to $ 5,000.00 yeah I don't have that kind of money laying around to fix my blessed transmission.
So hear I am writing about my problems on this website to see what other Honda owners are complaining about. We all have the same problems with our vehicle and we want to be heard and taken seriously about minivan because we carry percious cargo on aboard. So lets see what the Honda people are going to do about this now. Thanks for listing to me rant in my story.

I purchased my 2000 Honda Odyssey from Kuhn Honda in Tampa Fl. I noticed the rough shifting which was expected after reading the recall info off line. Despite reading and knowing I still bought the vehicle, which im currently paying on. I am keeping the faith that a powertranny warranty will help along the way. I married the van for 3 years, so I pray and hope it will hold up. I have read the other complaints feeling the same way, I know my father Jehovah will not allow us to be burdened by a vehicle. So to all who are dealing with the issues of the Odyssey I hope you find your fix or resolve the issue.

When I put the van in reverse it clunks into gear and when I accelerate I hit around 3,000 rpms at 15mph. If I decide to accelerate then decide not to and then accelerate again the transmission Idles and then kicks in while hitting over 5,500 rpms. The power of the engine is definitely not getting fully to the wheels because of the transmission making quick acceleration impossable.

We took our honda in at 75k miles to JEFF WYLER HONDA of florence Kentucky when the transmission started acting rough and reverse was clunking into gear. We had also gotten the recall notice on the transmission. They said that nothing was wrong with the vehicle and that I needed to wait until the ck. engine light came on which would be enough of an indicator for them to replace the Trans. Our trans. kept getting worse and worse until a few days ago the CK engine light came on at 116,000 miles so we took it in and they still deny that there is anything wrong with the trans. I asked them if they had drove it? They said around the lot. (come on, around the lot) what a joke!!! They didn't want to fix it. They also said that any work needing to be done to the trans. I would have to pay for which would be 3500$. How convenient now that it is out of warranty on the recall notice. Ridiculous!! They did admit that it needed an EGR which I also received a recall notice on and that would be 370$ out of me pocket. There is one more thing that it needed, which was a new catalytic converter which would cost my family 1375$ I would also like to say that maybe I would expect things to go wrong if I treated this van poorly, but it has been well taken care of, and always had regular oil changes and maintenance work done to it. There is no way in hell that my wife and I will put over $5000.00 into this van with only 116K miles. We own a Toyota Camry that has 175K miles on it and we have never had to put a dimes worth of work in it. I have read thousands of other complaints in this Honda Odyssey, and I wonder why so many people are willing to let Honda put a 2nd, 3rd and 4th transmission which is the exact same faulty transmission back into their vehicle?? My wife and I have decided that we will never own another Honda product as long as we live. My plea to everyone reading this is any company with as many documented problems an Honda has and who is not willing to own up to the problems and make them right is NOT a company you want to do business with.

Rough shifting; hear a thud at low acceleration; replace all engine and transmission mounts. Move forward and backward even in drive.
