Odyssey 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 121,800 miles

We purchased new 2000 Odyssey in 2000. We were coming back from recent long trip, ~400+ miles, as we were coming closer to home, smoke started coming from front along with burning smell of oil, took exit and get it checked at repair shop, mechanic found dipstick open and transmission oil spilling out. We got transmission filled (topped) and came home. Later Check-engine light came. Next day took van to local auto mechanic, got transmission fluid drained and refilled with new Honda's transmission fluid. Reset Check-engine light. Mechanic also told us that this is know issue in Honda Transmission of oil start leaking due to pressure overbuild inside.

After driving few miles Check-engine light came back and Transmission started slipping again. It seems that transmission is gone.

Called Honda USA Customer service to check if they can do anything, after taking all information lady put us on hold, talked to someone and came back stating that Vehicle is out of extended warranty and cost of repair would have come out of our pocket. Tried to convince her that this seems to be known issue in Honda Transmission but Honda rep kept repeating same thing about this is NOT a Recall and since Vehicle is out of Warranty we'll have to pay for the repair from out pocket !!

Just in last year, we spent ~$1000 on this Van, Catalytic Converter and new Brakes !!

After this experience, not sure abut getting Honda Vehicle any more !!

Odyssey EX 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

My 2000 Honda Odyssey was slamming into 2nd till it started slipping. I put in a used Solenoid....but it still slips in 2nd and another symptom is TCS light comes on after 5 min or so driving.

[ I can make it go into 2nd if i REV it out to about 25-3000 RPM in first gear and back off the accelerator fast as it is going in to 2nd then it goes into gear.]

So I tried putting in a NEW dual linear solenoid - had slight improvement but still slips in 2nd gear or will not go into 2nd gear without backing off accelerator.

I have changed the fluid and tried addittives all to no avail. I also checked the other solenoids which seem ok.

Odyssey EX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 177,000 miles

Initially I had intermittent transmission slipping. after few days runs, it became worse. initially it was statted when cold, I had also changed Transmission fluid, problem became worst. Car is not drivable any more. Any suggestion. I am planning to get rid of the car if Transmission rebuild is the only fix. It's 2000 Odyssey with 177k miles.
