The contact owns a 2001 Honda Odyssey. While parked, the rear driver and passenger side doors failed to open. The contact stated that the rear driver and passenger side doors would not open if the vehicle's gear was in the drive position. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

My 2001 Honda Odyssey minivans power sliding doors stopped working while visiting my sister in Aurora, Colorado around Dec. 26, 2009 because it snowed there overnight. My brother-in-law looked up if this problem was mentioned online. The problem was mentioned and they said you have to disconnect a battery cable then reconnect the battery cable so it will reset the electronics for the power sliding doors. Sure enough that fixed the problem and the sliding power doors started working again. We waited for the sun to come out before doing this.

2001 Honda Odyssey minivan power sliding doors keep failing especially in icy conditions. Several times I have had my children in my car when the doors failed to operate fully. I had to crawl to the back through my front doors to reach my very young children to put them in and out of their car seats. Then I needed to drive home in icy conditions with the door partially open next to one of my children. In addition, one of my children has a medical condition that makes getting to them as quickly as possible very important for their safety. These power doors are simply hazardous and there should be a recall to fix these. From the discussions on owner forums, this is happening to quite a lot of people with this model of car across a wide range of years. After spending a couple of hundred dollars with the dealer to try to fix this, the dealer gave me a new 'fix'. I need to remove a fuse for 30 seconds and then replace the fuse. The doors needs to be 'reset' I.e. it appears to be a design defect in a sensor rather than an actual physical part needing replaced. I have replaced nearly every part of one of my sliding doors and still continue to have this problem after it has been icy. Usually my husband can manually operate the door after this has happened, but I am not as strong as he is and I cannot fully open or close the door. Resetting the door by removing the fuse for 30 seconds makes the door start working again until the next occurrence. Until recently, my dealer did not tell me the trick with the fuse so when this would happen, I would be forced to drive my children home with the door partially open.

The door would have crushed me if I did not jump out of the way. If that would have been a child it would kill them. Now one door works but because the other doesn't I have to turn off the auto-door switch because it buzzes constantly. I have also had the clock light burn out and my Honda mechanic (who specializes in Honda) cannot remove the cover to replace it. I have had several other warning light incidents that may or may not be electrical problems.

Early in 2002 I begin having difficulties opening the passenger side sliding door on my Honda Odyssey. I took the van to the local dealership and was told I must not be closing the door correctly. In June 2003, I returned to the dealership- at that time they replaced the rubber seal around the door, admitting other vehicles were having that problem. July 2005 the door again became difficult to open, the local dealership applied a spray "that should solve the problem". by October 2005 some days the door would open, some days it would not. Dec. 4, 2005, I was traveling home, alone, from church about 8:45 pm when all of the interior lights came on. I saw the door open signal for the passenger sliding door was on. It was dark, at a section of the county that I was not comfortable stopping at, so I drove for approx. 2 miles to reach an area where I felt safe to stop, get out, go around the car and close the door. I contacted Honda on Monday - if I want to pay for it, they will replace the seal again. I have called the Honda 800 number they gave me at the local dealership, taken the car back to the dealership for them to look at it. Because I refused to pay for a diagnosis (the individual on the 800 number said nothing about that during the first call) Honda will do nothing. This door has been a problem from the first, I feel Honda has never corrected the problem, just made it bearable for a while. It is unsafe.

While exiting our 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan, my 2 year old daughter got her foot caught in the motorized door mechanism as the door was opening. I understand there is some type of sensor to detect an obstruction when the door is closing but there is no sensor to detect an obstruction when the door is opening. She had her foot pinched in the mechanism along the door sill. Her foot was "squashed". we took her to the emergency room where xrays did not reveal any damage; however, the doctor who examined her said that permanent damage may not be detected or noticeable until she is fully grown. We contacted Honda's customer service to report the event. We asked that some sort of sensor be installed in future models or at the very least a warning appear somewhere in the car. We also asked that some sort of notification be sent to all owners of their vans with motorized doors. The representative from Honda said that Honda would not do that.
