About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The contact owns a 2001 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the check engine and traction control system lights remained illuminated after the vehicle was started. The mechanic stated that there was an egr valve failure. The contact received a recall notice in 2005 for the egr valve. At the time of the recall, the check engine light was not illuminated and the dealer stated they would only check it if the light was illuminated. The recall was good for 80,000 miles or eight years. Currently, the dealer has refused to repair the vehicle due to its mileage. The NHTSA recall # was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 95,000.

I took my 2001 Honda Odyssey mini van to kuhn Honda in tampa, fl for routine maintenance and was told by the service dept that the passenger's side and front engine mounts were broken and needed to be replaced. The van had only 51,880 miles on it. I was told that the service department had replaced the same mounts on numerous other Odyssey van, S and even the one next to it in the shop needed them. The service manager indicated that Honda did not cover this repair under any warranty extension despite what seemed to me to be a clearly defective part that could have grave safety consequences. Honda should issue a recall and replace these engine mounts as their failure can cause hesitation during acceleration and other drive-train related problems.

Vehicle fire while engine was turned off and parked. The consumer had backed his car into the parking spot, and the tail pipe was jammed into the mulch. The blocking of the tailpipe caused the heat of the exhaust to start the mulch on fire spreading to the plastic bumper of the car and into the car. After the accident occurred it came to the consumer attention that the tail pipe was defective and the dealership should pay for all expenses and repairs made as a result.

After getting our 30000 miles maintenance completed which included (but not limited to) an oil change and replacement of the transmission fluid, we started noticing a hesitation in the car when the accelerator was depressed. When the transmission fluid was replaced, it took longer than expected thus I assumed that there may have been a problem with the transmission. We took it back to the service center to have them assess the situation and they found that two of the engine mounts were broken. The car only has 34K miles on it. It seems premature that something like this would happen, therefore, I feel it necessary to bring this to your attention to address the safety of this part (the engine mounts).

While traveling on the highway without prior warning the timing belt fell off. The dealership is aware of the problem.

Noticed vehicle leaking oil approx. 2 1/2 weeks after purchase. Appointment made for the following week. Seal where oil pan attaches to engine was not properly sealed or defective. This was replaced on August 8, 2001. Approx. 2 1/2 weeks after this I noticed more oil leaking from vehicle in greater quantity than the first incident. Contacted dealership and manufacturer and vehicle has been at the dealership awaiting parts since 8/31/01. I am told this time it is the rear main seal (crank seal between engine and transmission) that is leaking and the transmission will have to be pulled to complete the repair. The vehicle has only 1030 miles on it at this time. ***dealership where vehicle was purchased was notified of problems, however vehicle is being serviced by leesburg Honda-1 cardinal park drive S.E. leesburg, va 20175 703-777-1982.
